In my opinion the problem started when the line started to blur on what series and/or movies you had to have seen to understand the next one.

I honestly feel there’s been a dip in quality of not only their shows but also their movies

I think it's more nuanced than just the fact that they've had bad writing. It's also the massive amount of shows that have been coming out that really should have just been movies. While I never cared about the MCU even before Infinity War and Endgame, I've definitely been shown that I shouldn't even bother at this point due to the lackluster phase 4, and the shows being longer than a movie yet worse often makes it feel like there's no point to even watching them.

Schaffrillas productions actually just had a video relating to this. The MCU used to be very quality over quantity with at least something of a cohesive vision for the world and its characters. The Disneyification of Marvel, especially with the shows on Disney+, has flipped that ideal. Good storytelling and overall quality have been sacrificed to pump out new marvel content at a breakneck pace, and it is consumers and the people being overworked/rushed to produce the shows and movies that are paying the price.

Pretty much hit or miss. I'd like them to explore more horror, Moon Knight is so out of their comfort zone, THAT'S what I want to see; a new formula, a new direction, a new genre. They need to start producing more quality products, nobody is asking for over 15 productions in one year, we just want something good

A lot of the shows feel like 1 step forward and 4 steps back. They have really interesting ideas and concepts but they ultimately fall flat by the end of the show. They want to be experimental but play it too safe.

I think one point was missing from the poll, and it's one you made in your "Marvel taking fans for granted" video: The TV shows are flawed, but the biggest issue is putting corporate goals before the fans and story. The shows aren't just a little flawed, they feel more soulless, and contrived, and none of them are paced correctly because they have to be stretched into shows, and none of them have the correct tone because it has to be kid friendly. Basically, the story and sfx have been completely sacrificed for the sake of maxing out content that no one is asking for.

its tough, because most of the shows i couldnt care less about, but moon knight single handedly got me interested in mcu stuff again. but it (and werewolf by night) do feel more like exceptions than the rule.

Franchise exhaustion and relatively new blood in the writers room if I had to guess. But I dont know how many of the talented screenwriters that were available through phase 1 through 3 are still around.

I feel like the mcu if it wants to introduce new characters it needs to keep them in a self sustained story(solo movie) untill they are well established. One of the problems at the moment is everything is interconnected and if you look at phase 1 where they were introducing new characters 90% of the films were self contained. I think that the Disney+ shows should still exist but be like side missions of the heroes not their main story.

I do agree that it really creates a connectivity gap because I get worried I'm gonna miss out some important references or information if I don't watch a show.

I feel if they had use interesting side characters instead of main characters and then use the side characters to explore more of the world of the MCU leaving the bigger name characters for just the movies it would've worked better

It's not just a dip in quality for me, which we've handled before with stuff like Thor 2 and Black Widow or Ant Man being mid to bad, but it's the amount of content that is the issue for me. There are just too many things to watch. I'm even trying to keep up and I haven't even finished Moon Knight yet.

They wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t feel like they were made by a factory (just like everything Disney nowadays)

I think they've just lost focus. When you're making 1 to 2 movies a year, its very different from making 4 movies and 5 series a year

The real problem is just that they're clearly pushing out way too much content, way too fast to really quality-check it as much as they should. This most obviously applies to the VFX departments which everyone's heard about, but even to the core writing and the continuity checking.

If they were all as good as the beginning/middle of Wanda Vision or the first couple seasons of Agents of Shield I'd be so happy.

I absolutely adore WandaVision, but that’s only because it was the only one that actually made use of the TV format.

Some of the shows are legit good (Falcon & Winter Soldier, Loki & WandaVision all justify their lengths) some are a chore to get through, they should do more made for Disney+ movie length stuff, like the new werewolf thing is alright but I really appreciate it doesn’t have 5 extra hours of filler.

The Closer Look
How do you feel about the MCU shows on Disney plus? Are they good, or bad for the franchise?
I'm making a huge video right now on why Marvel has been flopping hard recently. This poll relates to it, but what do you guys think about the state of Marvel? Why do you think it's not been doing well as of late? Or do you think it's going well?
I'd love to see your thoughts in the replies!
Best,
- Henry
