I believe in keeping a safe distance from erupting volcanos, a Continent away seems far enough...

I lived in Hawaii since I was 6 (now 38). Growing up, seeing the occasional "vog" (volcanic fog) while on the freeway with almost zero visibility was within the norms of daily Oahu life. 😆

It's an active volcano. It would be more surprising if it didn't erupt regularly.

My dad was stationed there during the 60s and I suppose he saw it erupt several times

It's an active volcano and unlike Mt St Helens which is a stratovolcano which can lie dormant for hundreds of years. Kiluea is a shield type volcano. Yes I did use Google 🤣

How about these people who build their homes next to an active volcano........ and then wonder why there's lava in the living room.

As a warning system, they should install speakers around the area that play "Eruption", when it starts.

And Yellowstone is getting new geysers, the earth's magnetic pole is shifting, offshore earthquakes at the faults. The core and mantle are melting.
