Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos
Our dearest TOGO left us yesterday. 🐾❤️ He gave us almost 10 years, and yet a lifetime wouldn't have been enough.
He was my father's shadow and confidant, he demanded belly rubs and butt scratches first thing in the morning, he was a gourmand who loved steak but turned his nose up at ground beef, and he knew how to swindle treats out of every family member. He was obsessed with water, whether he was biting at the water shooting out of the garden hose or diving headfirst into the lake. And no football ever lasted more than 5 minutes around him, because a ball wasn't quite right for play until it was punctured.
But most importantly, Togo loved being with his family - it didn't matter if we were going for a walk or running errands in town, he always wanted to come along. He was the first one to jump in the car, and if he stayed home, he was the first one to welcome you back.
Once Togo joined the family, our travel style changed, and road trips became the new norm. It began with winter escapes to the cottage, where he could be a wolf in the woods. Then his first big road trip to the Rockies for a taste of wooded trails and alpine lakes. He even got to see the Maritimes and swim in the ocean. These road trips were always a challenge because Togo couldn't stand the sound of the turn signal, yet he managed to travel across Canada.
My parents' retirement in the Rocky Mountains was in great part inspired by Togo. They wanted to give him open space and wilderness, and he got to enjoy 3 blissful years in the mountains! Going from the suburbs to rural living was the easiest transition! Summers were spent swimming at the lake, winters rolling in the snow, and he even got to see his fair share of excitement running after deer and chasing the odd black bear up a tree. He never did manage to catch the ever-elusive chipmunks on the rock wall.
Togo got to watch 5 babies join the family, sniffing each newcomer and welcoming them to the pack. He was the first to detect a dirty diaper on a newborn, and he let the toddlers crawl all over him and snuggle into his fur - a true gentle giant.
He leaves a gaping hole in our hearts that won't ever be replaced by another. We look back on the years together, and we really gave him a dream life, because he deserved it.
We love you, Toguchi. We won't ever forget you.
