S3

Hey, Jason here! I could use your advice.

S3 is going to be changing a soon — the main episode will feature me in them as a host and will be a bit longer. This change will allow us to go more depth, talk about some of the realities of building hard things (like what we feature on the show), and hopefully feel more experiential. This should add more substance and technical depth to episodes.

You may notice we stopped doing sit down interviews. The reason being: I've always wanted to be a filmmaker not an interviewer. However, I realize we have unique access and ability to steal ~90 minutes of people's time to try and get their expertise into an interview format with main episodes on Saturdays and interviews on Sundays (how we used to do it).

So, should we bring them back? Or not, and experiment with our new iteration of the show?

third option- do whatever you enjoy the most that you are passionate about making!

@Jaosin182

I like either option. Interviews were great with certain CEOs and not so much with others. Side note: it would be great if you did a company who’s reshaping agriculture through automation! Many great companies out there and I’m sure you’d do a great job showcasing these techs.

I'd 100% prefer the more technical aspect, especially after the Bridgit Mendler and balloon guy episodes. Maybe start a second channel for this type of content?

your interviews were actually inspiring to me, you get people speaking their own language, and with that come a whole lot of informative nuances in expression that we don't get that anywhere else. I'm a little worried that your interviews might have been good because you didn't see yourself as an interviewer or something.

I like and watch both of these types of videos haha. if you will do some form of both, consider that interviews can be used to highlight the actual person and there story, and put they themselves in the spotlight, as opposed to the regular video showing the technology, tours, and what they're currently up too.

I'm with shawn - when you are doing what you are enjoying, the output carries that joy.

an interview on the robotic arm video would be amazing

i personally find the two video thing a bit confusing, like usually there is one piece of content per topic. That said i love the interviews, just seems like that stillness is a great way to go deep on how the founders think, and easy to listen to while going for a walk... not sure what the answer is but i'm sure youll continue making some of the best content on the tubes ❤️

Personally, I like both. Perhaps in the 90 minutes you spend with them, you could both do a partial interview and separately you could show a physical demonstration of what they are doing/building. It is cool to see the stuff, but without seeing who the builders are, it doesn't really mean as much. So both is my answer. And the benefit of doing both is it's 2 separate episodes for you.

i would suggest to upload the interviews separately on different channels or maybe as a podcast on spotify. podcast tab here in youtube could help too. then you wont mess around with your algorithm.

It can be a combination of both. In depth talk need focus

@MrMichiel1983

Focus on your thing for now and let the dissonance of not interviewing grow naturally. You'll meet interesting people in the meantime and develop the taste for talking not because of random abstract motivation (I really should), but personal fascination (I really may). But also, you could balance both based on context... pair interviews with main episodes as specials. There can be passion in work, but also work in passion.

Do what you enjoy so you don’t burn out. The interviews were good but I feel like there are other platforms that are already doing the same type of interviews with these people. Like first principles.

Do the thing you wouldn't mind putting in extra hours to perfect

Sor down interviews once in a while is good but all the time. Or maybe if there's an interview, have some relevant footage in the background (not just B roll)
