🎸’71,Rory rocking the USA.Rory as a Solo artist, opened for Frank Zappa & the Mothers, and Fleetwood Mac at the Milwaukee Arena in Wisconsin on October 20’71, and was a hard touring, hard playing guitarist who was gaining a reputation as one of the best blues-rock musicians in the World. He had just released his first solo album after leaving his earlier band TASTE.This night was a major bill featuring three very different, but highly respected acts of the era. The concert marked a key moment in Rory’s career, as he was establishing himself as a Solo artist. His 1971 self-titled album and tour were critical introducing his music to American audiences. This concert was a memorable occasion due to the rare combination of musical styles. Some attendees were there primarily to see Rory, already impressed with his soulful playing.Others noticed Rory’s powerful blues with Zappa’s experimentalism and the softer blues of FWM.This event is remembered as a snapshot of Rocks “Golden Era “ when the lineup’s were built to showcase a wide range of musical depth. While Rory and Frank Zappa operated in different sonic worlds, they showed a genuine mutual respect.Zappa was known to appreciate great musicianship and Rory was a guitarist of exceptional skill and integrity. This was not a clash of styles but a mutual celebration of outstanding talent,a sentiment shared by many music fans at the time. The pairing of such acts was a testament to the adventurous programming of the era.At this time FWM featured Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch on guitar following the departures of Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. This was a significantly different line up and sound from their early blues roots.Rory, you are missed this day and everyday ❤️U4EVER ❤️🎸⚡️☘️💚🤍🧡

Wonderful pic... Rory gettin' it on, in his zone.. Nothing else mattered, his music was all he needed. Once he got on stage quiet, shy and soft spoken Rory disappeared and the cyclone, the phenomenon that was Rory G. took over... One of his bandmates said "during the day he was just an ordinary guy but when he got on stage it was the real Rory"... During the day, killing time 'till it was time to get on stage and SHINE... Playing his part in that 'Shadow Play' of life - "A little bit of Jekyll, a little Mr Hyde"......He was on the bill with Zappa on this day in 71. Zappa was asked (before Rory passed away) what he thought of Rory - he shrugged, said he didn't recall much about him, "we were on tour with him early 70's he was "adequate", he's still playing the blues" - and that was that, Zappa had nothing more to add.!!! This was also Gerry's and Wilgar's first USA tour with Rory, Gerry 19 years old, Wilgar a bit older, married - and missing his family ... Gerry said he had a great time and after one gig was thrilled that they ended up in the airport coffee shop with Zappa ....It was all new to Rory and his band and they savoured every minute of their American tour, Rory starting to make a real name for himself overseas, impressing every audience he played in front of, a promoters dream....Tours were put together then by recording companies, bands in the same 'stable', or promoters whose only criteria was popularity, who was in 'the charts', who had a new single or album release, nothing to do with music styles or 'genres'... Rory was the 'hot new guitarist' with a new album, his 'Agency' did their job, promoters got more than they expected, Rory knocking, and rocking, the socks off the crowds at every venue, his popularity growing - not from publicity stunts, but by word of mouth Whoever got to see Rory for the first time was blown away and passed on the news.. "You gotta go see this Irish guitar player".....The '70s was a time when 'names' were made , when bands had done their time in the mid to late '60s and were becoming ever more popular - some bands had short life spans, one hit wonders, some went on to do 'big' things, some sold out in the name of fame and fortune ... Some band members didn't 'get on' with each other (Fleetwood Mac for instance, who were also on this tour).. And, as in all walks of life, some bands didn't like each other, 'mutual respect' a bit thin on the ground .. Rory was an exception, no-one had a bad word to say about him - they still don't....Rory wasn't one of the 'sell outs' either ... He stayed true to himself, his beliefs, his musical roots and put music before all else... A fine example for young musicians, and not only, to follow.... "Adequate" ? No sir .. We know different. Rory was more than 'adequate'.. He was a guitar master the likes of which we will never see, or hear, again - not in my lifetime anyway ... Guitar 'greats' come and go, some remembered, some forgotten, some lost along the way - Rory Gallagher is as much alive today as he ever was. Alive in our hearts and in our thoughts ... Thanks a million Rory G, for a lifetime of music and magical memories. An exceptional musician and songwriter. A unique and exceptional human being. A true gentleman. A beautiful soul... Slan go foill Rory ❤️🕊
