To name ECMAScript as Javascript, Netscape took permission from Sun to use Java, the buzzword of programming at the time.

Back when I was in school I heard some seniors talking that we can make our own Android app using Java, so I rushed back home and searched 'Learn java' on Google. The first result was an ad of website course teaching JavaScript. It took me about a month of JS only to realise it's not Java🙂
