Moving to the beat helps with mixing and transitions. Also, if you aren’t moving, you aren’t feeling it, which can translate to the crowd not feeling it.

I think a DJ should do whatever makes them feel comfortable and enables them to enjoy the moment. What's important to me as an audience member is that the DJ is enjoying the music and genuinely feeling the vibe. In my experience I've felt DJs have been able to do that whether they were dancing or not.

I’m trying to start my journey as a dj. I have always LOVED to dance and have a great ear for music and want an excuse to dance all the time lol.

I go all out when I am playing a hit song as much as my audience should.

When I dj'd back in the day when we just had vinyl, There was no time to dance.. going through crates to look for the next track, listen on which side of the record was the version you want to play, start beat matching, actively listening to the other track to not miss the mix-in-point etc. Even while mixing you had to concentrate twice as much to spot if one of the tracks didnt drift away and recognize which one of the two was going quicker or slower. It was a lot of work and needed deep concentration.

Nah the other day I was playing a house and trance set and just caught a vibe and before I knew it it was over an hour later I was just dancing and mixing and everything was flowing so good. I feel like when I’m dancing then I’m chillin. But when I’m not moving I psych myself out and over analyze my decks and that’s when I’ve noticed more problems

Depends on event, genre, and first of everything what you mean by dancing

Honestly it's so personal. Some DJs are very serious and keep composed behind the decks. I'm quite expressive and like to dance as if I am in the crowd too🫶🏻 do whatever feels right and be true to yourse

The whole point I started mixing techno a few days ago, was to make music I want to dance to 😂

You can mix and still get down! If you’re moving a crowd you have to move yourself.

DJ Carlo
Should DJs dance when DJing or just stay still and just mix?
