In the capitalistic world, it's impossible that *everyone* can be rich. The most we can do is to make sure that the bottom line is able to survive, and how much beyond the base line is depending on how generous the people at the top are.
The prosperous world is not about everyone being rich. Rather it's about how well the bottom line is. Let's say people can survive and grow without any problem. Have decent leisure and have access to some luxuries. I'd say that's the prosperity we should aim for.
Someone drowning in luxuries is essentially greedy and stingy. Why do you need to have every luxurious things while so many people are still starving ? It doesn't matter how much you made. What's matters is what you do with those resources. You're spending them to just drowned yourself in lavish lifestyle...well that's gonna hurt your soul. Mediocrity is not about living a life without luxury. But it's about having no competency.
If you're indulge in a vulgar lifestyle everyday, surely you'd become weak. Without enriching your soul, you're slowly descending to hell. The living hell doesn't need you to die. It's the reality you're living everyday. Excessive indulgence will lead you to that.
Don't get me wrong. Good life doesn't mean having no indulgence. It's mean to know the moderation and continued to enrich your soul. You can always indulge yourself in vulgar lifestyle. But what would you become when it's your daily life ? You'd become a vulgar entity. Indulgence in moderation can help nourish and even enrich your soul. But excessive indulgence will transform you into it.
