the old covenant had very detailed instructions about the priesthood. the new covenant has next to nothing. we have an eternal mediator through Christ, so the priestly system is no longer needed between God and man, as the author of Hebrews makes clear. We still need teachers, evangelists, etc., and there is nothing wrong with an orderly arrangement of Christian institutions, but there is no reason to cloak it in a fake mysticism that isn't supported by scripture.

Yep. Let's be honest though. There are lots of things the catholic church does that isn't scriptural or is a twisted scripture verse. Years of tradition.

If we are believers of Jesus Christ and have decided to be followers of Jesus Christ, then we know we are all held accountable as individuals...meaning we need to be reading and studying our Bibles for ourselves!!! Good pastors that preach and teach the Word of God, Bible is refreshing. But we must always remember... while too many of us are picking on the Catholics, many other denominations are not truly teaching and preaching the WHOLE WORD OF GOD. While other books may be helpful references, they are NOT the Holy inspired Word of God. READ YOUR BIBLES FOLKS, if you've already read it, read it again, and again and again, never stop reading it!!!!

They are not right. Remember the last supper? They were fighting on who would take His place. There is only one Leader in His church..the Head of the Body of Christ. There is no other leaders only trusted servants. And whoever desires to be great needs to be Servant of All. And be willing to be obedient to the point of death.

"You are Peter and upon this rock, I will build my Church."

But they are not. They mistakingly think Jesus was referring to Peter as the rock, but it was the truth Peter spoke , that jesus is the Christ as the foundation of the church

Good luck to all the sola scriptura Christians when they figure out that the New Testament was compiled by the Council of Rome, while the pope at the time was one of Peter’s successors. Enjoy your Catholic tradition, everyone.

the more you study church history the clearer it actually is that what the catholics and orthodoxys do make 10000% sense and actually follows and establishes the church the Lord Jesus wants. baptism, communion, community, eucharist, all of that.

That’s because some books got taken out of the Bible . Also God guided Peter to start writing the canon laws.

Thank you Pastor for saying the Truth. I saw many jump for joy for the new pope . I did not hear a word about Jesus. All glory to Jesus

Bishops are the successors of the apostles. They’re supposed to lead the people.

The apostles replaced Judas’ position by the laying on of hands. It seems like they really cared about preserving the authority of apostolic authority. Mattias “succeeded” Judas and had apostolic authority. Is there anywhere in Scripture that says that practice did NOT continue? The apostles also cared about appointing deacons and overseers to lead each burgeoning flock. Why would that cease after the apostles died? It seems clear from church history that in the wake of heresies and false teachers, apostolic succession was critical in determining which church taught and preserved the Gospel and which were upstart heretical congregations.

“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God.” (Romans 6:8-10 LSB) “For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…” (1 Timothy 2:5 LSB) “Now the main point in what is being said is this: we have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the holy places and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.” (Hebrews 8:1-2 LSB) “Protestantism owed much to you in past ages, will you not now raise your voice and show the ignorant and the priest-ridden the tendencies of all these mummeries, and the detestable errors of the Romish Church and of its Anglican sister.” - Charles Spurgeon

This is especially true for the popes after Peter and before the year 193, which signalled the end of the Pax Romana. After this period, there appears to be a bit more organized church, along with better organized papal elections.

Yes there is. Through the Apostles is how the Spirit is spread. If you have not been baptised in water and light by a person with the correct authority to do so, you cannot receive the Holy Spirit. The church is given responsibility for preserving the word of christ, and thus preserving the rites for baptism and communion. This is all given by Jesus christ himself. If you have not read or understood Jesus Christ's own words you have no business complaining about his church.

That's like saying the keys to the kingdom that he gave Peter aren't to be passed down because the kingdom doesn't exist anymore. If the kingdom exists, so do the keys.

I would love to see pastor Mark Driscoll do a book review of Fifty Years in the Church of Rome by Charles Chiniquy that was published in 1886. In this autobiographical account, Chiniquy details his life as a Catholic priest and the events that made him leave the Catholic Church and convert to Protestant Christianity. Great resource for Christians all around who want to know more about Catholicism.

My apostolic church was just teaching me about Peter. This seems to be the only thing that separates them From the Baptist. Well, that and speaking in tongues.

Are you familiar with THE PROPHECY OF THE POPES? Fascinating. Chilling.

Pastor Mark Driscoll
Even if Catholics are right about Peter being the first pope, there’s simply nothing in scripture that sets a precedent for the apostolic succession they claim follows.
