In sheer sales it is Minecraft, but you have to understand that WoW players were dedicated to playing the game daily and paying $15 a month (BEFORE INFLATION) for YEARS. These Gen Alpha kids really have no idea what a juggernaut WoW was

Around 80% of people voting weren't even born yet when WoW was in its prime.

For context, WoW came out over 6 years before Minecraft released it's first beta version and still has a dedicated playerbase today. I'd argue that Wrath of the Lich King was the prime of WoW, and still to this day I look back at that era as one of the best times gaming in my own life. That's coming from someone who has played Minecraft for 15 years.

The answer is WoW. There’s never been a player base so enveloped in a game before or since that. Day and night no showers and neglecting basic hygiene on top of paying a subscription service

I am 35 and gaming all my life. On Dos on win 95 on Nintendo and so on... Maybe games like Minecraft and Fortnite have way bigger player base BUT WoW was crazy on a level people can't even understand. People get divorced because of wow. People lost there life because of WoW because they stop eating. People married because of WoW. People quit jobs and lost there families because of WoW. I Personally know people that drove hundreds of kilometers to beat someone up because they ninja looted in WoW. People played for days without sleeping to the point were they dropped on the keyboard because they were sooo tired. And all the screaming, rage, hate and joy and happiness. Because of this game a Phenomenon nobody seen before in the world of gaming until this point. Yeah other games had a bigger playerbase but Boy o Boy WoW really gathered some pioneer PC race masterclass gamers together you can't recreate that. Prime WoW was the Biggest culture thing there will be.

Going from burning crusade to wrath of the lich king, is a feeling I want to experience again, the old wow storyline is a masterpiece, everything went downhill after mist of pandaria.

Prime WoW shook the whole world back then. Fortnite introduced gaming to a much wider audience, it brought the whole world together. Minecraft was an extremely interesting project back then and stayed insanely consistent over all these years, but definitely not the biggest in his prime, it did not even have a real prime, cause it has been out for such a long time

Fortnite had the world in a choke hold back in 2017/18

Prime wow was basically tantamount to a continent adjacent to all the real world continents.

Never played Wow but one of my best friends did and he swears to this day that it gave him terrible social anxiety, he says he played all day every day for years on end and had zero social life, he barely talked to a girl till he was in his early 20s and he would always be terrified of them when we would go out to bars when I met him years later, when I asked him about it he said he never learned how to socialize properly, the irony is that he is easily an 8 to most women lol It really goes to show what a crazy phenomenon this game was at the time, hes married now btw with two children just in case anyone wanted to know
