Samsung have released the Galaxy XR with Google Android XR which has launched in the US and Korea (no word on Europe yet) at $1,800. It has 4K Micro-OLED's, XR2+ Gen 2 chip, Eye/Face Tracking, colour passthrough a separate battery (2+ hours) & auto IPD (amongst other things). It is not aimed at gamers, the controllers are sold separately at $250 (though ironically, they've sold out immediately). This headset has been positioned as the Android "Apple Vision Pro".
It does have some big games at launch including Walkabout Mini Golf, Synth Riders, Arizona Sunshine Remake & Arizona Sunshine 2, Cubism, Demeo, FitXR, Green Hell VR, Job Simulator, NFL Pro Era & Real VR Fishing. Guy Godin's Virtual Desktop (with the monster graphics settings) is also available, so you COULD play your PC VR games (if you can get hold of those controllers). Plus, Google Gemini AI and Google Chrome
Should Samsung have targeted the Apple Vison Pro market? Should they have been more friendly toward us VR gamers and packaged the controllers in a bundle? Are you EVEN bothered about another high-end headset?
Me? Personal opinion? It's a total missed opportunity for me, as a gamer BUT if Google stay interested in XR/VR, we may finally get a real competitor for Meta's dominant Quest 2/3 and competition forces innovation, which has to be good for us, right?
