JESUS IS KING! YES! BUT IS HE LORD TO YOU? Today, we often hear people saying, “Jesus is King.” And, as born-again believers in Christ Jesus we know this is true without a doubt. The Scriptures say something quite specific about how one refers to Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 12:3, it reads:
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
Here we see that one cannot speak bad about Jesus and it be of The Holy Spirit’s prompting. Likewise, it is only by The Holy Spirit that someone can say, "Jesus is Lord".
To say Jesus Christ is Lord over one’s life means they have chosen a relationship with Him by confessing with their mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believing in their heart that God has raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9,10), or they have called on The Name of Jesus for salvation, “Jesus, save me! Forgive me. I want to live for You and submit my life to You.” (ref: Acts 2:21).
Therefore, confessing that Jesus is Lord and following His commands is what makes the ETERNAL difference in your life, not that it is wrong to refer to Him as King, of course.
In reference to Jesus being King, remember what He answered when He was questioned by Pontius Pilate's official concerning Who He was. In Matthew 27:11, it reads:
Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.”
For further context, later in that same chapter (Matthew 27:35-36) we read:
35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” 36 Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. 37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
So, we see that those who crucified Jesus did not believe He was The Son of God, nor King of the Jews (Israel). They only acknowledged this title as a mockery. And sadly, many still do that today.
The above passage shows us that many can say that Jesus is King, even those who do not really know Him, but Jesus is Lord is not something some of the same people will say openly. Today, people are searching for truth, and it may be that they lack the Truth required for making that confession. And that is one reason believers in Christ are here, to bring the truth (preach the Gospel) to every creature.
As people proclaim that Jesus is King, it would also mean that they are confirming that He is King of the Jews, King of kings, and Lord of lords! And that is awesome because His Kingship and Lordship, given to Him by God, will never cease to be.
So, the next time you hear a family member or friend say, "Jesus is King!" Simply ask them if that also means He is Lord of their life. And if not, be ready to give them Jesus.
DO YOU KNOW JESUS AS LORD?
Father God loves you and His foremost desire is that you and all people would be saved. How do we know this besides what we noted earlier in Romans 10:9,10? Well, here are some other Scriptures about Salvation:
1 Timothy 2:3-5 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
John 10:9 [Jesus said], “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
John 8:32 You shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
