You actually see this kind of stuff a lot in behind-the-scenes footage of even the most professional animated films! Limbs clipping though objects, characters stretched to bizarre proportions (usually when you only need a part of their body to be visible), etc. If it's not visible in the shot, it's a waste of effort!
