😈🐜RUTHLESS ANTS GIF CHALLENGE 😈🐜 — We hope you enjoy our new special video about four of the most ruthless and crafty ants we’ve filmed: https://youtu.be/RBqt5egv6go Fire ants have an excruciating bite and sting. Kidnapper ants steal other ants’ babies. Honeypot ants turn their sisters into living jugs of nectar. And Argentine ants act as bodyguards in exchange for strings of sugary candy.

CHALLENGE: Which of the four ants mentioned above uses its own larvae to build a raft to survive floods? And what part of the larvae helps the raft stay afloat?

Fire ants! As floodwater trickles into their underground tunnels, fire ants start a rescue mission and build a raft out of their colony's larvae and pupae, putting them at the bottom. Curved, forked hairs on the larvae trap air bubbles that help keep the raft afloat.

➡️ ➡️The first 5 fans to give us BOTH the correct answer before 8am PST tomorrow will get a shout-out in the video description. Ready, set – GO!⏳

Ant: I could sting you elsewhere, but it's better into the bite wound...

Fire ants! The babies are less dense than water because they’re fattier?

These are my friends, but, we social distance at all times.

I think it's fire ants. Heard they do well with floods. As for the larva, my only guess would be the bodies of the larva themselves. They are chunky and would do better floatation wise. 🐜

I think fire ants right? Don't their babies have that outer layer of squish?

Fire ants. The babies have tiny hairs that trap bubbles that act like floaties and the hair also helps them cluster together

1. Fire ant. The waterproof skin of the larva helps the raft to maintain buoyancy.
