I love it when a section - such as vocals aren’t sounding nice & after the tweaking, adjusting & working on those “problem” sections - suddenly you fall in love with it again - feels like such an accomplishment!!

"Drum creativity" is so freaking important

I get excited about melody and progression, do a quick sketch composition, realize I hate it, try to fix it but only break it more, then give up and go do something else. Then, I'll be browsing projects a year later, open and play it and find it's an absolute banger and I was way too hard on myself.

If I had to choose, for sure it’s the time spent away from the studio. Walking, playing piano or guitar, considering, listening to new music by artists new and not so new. Writing the music with pencil and paper, at a piano, shower singing, sleeping on it, erasing…being mostly secure in the intention of the music. By the time I’m actually in studio, the flow is unmistakably strong. I find myself much less distracted by plug ins and other “studio gear” tech. Of course changes happen once in the daw…but the flow feels real and uninterrupted. The pencil and paper feels also like a certain type of commitment. More real when it’s in the staff. At least real enough to consider more before adjusting on the paper more. All the other things on your list…drums/sounds/building/….much easier and more inspired for me assuming the above. Great post!

One of my favorite parts is when I find a perfect sample while digging, so satisfying

@joeygproducedit7863

All of the above to be honest 😅 i may not ever be able to "professionally" master a song, but i enjoy creating my melodies, custom drum patterns and mixing it down how i envision. Its fun 😏 5 years in, and im just now starting to understand "the mi

Probably my favorite part is performing the songs live on my Wednesday streams, although I’m pretty fond of the steps leading up to it. Next is probably “auditioning” sounds, progressions or riffs and finding the sound that I didn’t know I was looking for

Mine is making my ideas, lyrics and chords come to life

I'm actually so surprised drums is so low, programming drums is SO fun, especially when youre using a drum machine and accidentally create a sick groove when loop recording

@Xserey

the process is always a struggle, but the end result is my absolute favorite.

@Melonox

My favorite part is to automate every single knob or filter to get the Song alive, which makes sense.

@croissant2434

I really struggle for the sound pick, partly because I probably don't know enough to transform them to fit my need, and I lack knowledge for both the names of the instruments/type of sounds, and where I could find free ones (cause a lot of VST/programs are SO POINTLESSLY EXPANSIVE) I also struggle to build a drum pattern I am satisfied with, I think it's mixed with the sound selection part, because I can't find drums that please me in the first place. and mixing feel too overwhelming and complicated for me right now. so I want to understand how to do melodies and chords to fit what I want to transcribe, then i'll check for more possible source of sound, then learn more about drums pattern, and then once the basic building block of making music is someting I am confident with, I'll learn how to mix.

I literally get lost making sounds. I sit down thinking, "I'm going to make a song!" ...four hours later I've made twenty new instruments because I just get lost twisting knobs and routing modulation on my digitally controlled analog synth.
