Hard drive swap complete! That was a 5 minute job. Easier than I thought.
The “burned” 8TB is now mounted and I’m ready to start transferring the files to the NAS.
And yes, as suggested, I’m going to use the spare 12TB drive as backup. Update it a couple times a month and keep in a fire safe. And will set up an offsite backup after that.
