Interceding for one another is one of our priestly responsibilities. Jesus, our perfect High Priest, is the ultimate Intercessor who teaches us to stand in the gap just as He does.
Though He is not physically present on earth, the Bible says He continues to make intercession for us at the right hand of God the Father. He has never stopped praying for His people.
Intercession simply means standing in the gap—lifting up the burdens of others before the Lord. We are not designed to carry our loads alone. Intercessory prayer allows us to speak to God on behalf of others so that He can release heavenly assistance into their lives.
God designed the earth and entrusted dominion to mankind. Because of this divine order, He often waits for His people to ask before He intervenes. Prayer is the invitation that brings His power into our circumstances.
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.” — 1 Timothy 2:1
There are people in dire situations all over the world who desperately need your prayers. Your intercession can turn situations around, open doors, break yokes, and usher in God’s mercy.
Paul encouraged Timothy to pray for all men—the good and the evil, the kind and the hostile.
Don’t only pray for the people you favor. Pray for those who dislike you. Pray for those who oppose you. Pray for those who love Jesus and for those who are far from Him. Your prayers carry eternal weight.
