Alright everyone—Holy Week is nearly here. If you haven’t been faithful to the Lenten sacrifices or commitments you chose at the start of the season, now isn’t the time for excuses or for pretending otherwise. Instead, let’s make this final week count.

Below are 12 penances and devotions you might consider. I’m not saying do all of them—just pick one or two that will help re-center your heart and draw you more deeply into what this week is really about: the remembrance of the Good Jesus, who went to Calvary out of love for you. mattfradd.substack.com/p/12-ways-to-finish-lent-st…

I haven't been faithful. Morally speaking, but it is a daily habit for me to get up at 4am pst and pray for about 2 hrs including listeng to Fr Mike Schmidt bible in year, all that I am still in mortal sin because of sins of lust, but the biggest thing I could do which I did was go to confession Thurs before Holy week.

Those are very useful and I practice some of those, but believe me there is one thing that "beats" all of those at once for married man - Admit that your wife is right in some thing that you know she's wrong or react with a smile when she does something again that annoys you a lot. A truly Lenten lesson on how to love.

In the comments on the link I saw requests for Holy Week ideas for women. Some thoughts are, depending on the age of your kids, it may be possible to do the Divine Mercy chaplet with them. Or if they can, do one Rosary (probably not three, though). My four-year-old got through a whole rosary (one day), so it will depend on the kids. If they like to color it might help to print out coloring pages of the rosary so they can color each bead as you pray it, or you could print out a coloring page for each mystery to color while they meditate on it. Also, Stations of the Cross is very doable with kids, better if you can find a booklet geared towards their ages, best if weather allows and you have a place that has outdoor stations. My family went to outdoor stations in 2020 when we were looking for something churchy to do while the churches were closed. Fasting could be modified. Instead of zero food for 40 hours, do the regular fasting guidelines of one meal/day and taking a small amount of food two other times if needed. You're doing that on Good Friday anyway, probably. Another idea is to do a stricter abstinence like they did back in the day when Fat Tuesday and Easter eggs were invented. As well as meat, give up dairy, eggs, fish, and oils as they used to. You will be grateful to have Easter eggs when Easter comes. A friend of mine told me one year she and some friends of hers went on a bread and water fast for the entirety of Lent and stepped it up during Holy Week by keeping the eggs out of their bread recipe, but I've never tried anything that intense myself. Listen to good Lenten music in the background of whatever else you're doing. There's a lot out there. Matt suggested Gregorian chant. I personally enjoy listening to Jesus Christ Superstar, lining up Hosanna with Palm Sunday, I Only Want to Say with Holy Thursday, etc, but I realize Andrew Lloyd Webber may be a bit controversial for some people. 😉 Make and eat unleavened bread on Holy Thursday. Clean a different room in your house each day. (This is particularly helpful if you're hosting Easter.) Watch The Passion of Christ. If your kids are old enough, they can watch, too. I hope that helps someone. May God bless your Holy Week

I needed this-we have moved around the last few weeks and into a camper until we have a house. My lent didn’t go as planned but needed to reclaim some of what was lost. Thank you…

There’s a weird masochism to this that bothers me I must admit. Should we not do things that are a sacrifice but somehow contribute meaningfully to the world? Do something for someone else vs taking cold showers and fasting? Isn’t this what Protestants are always criticising Catholics about? I honestly don’t know. Discuss…
