axes are obsolete late game because of enchantments. early game, they are the destroyer of worlds.

The stone axe also has one of the slowest attack speeds in the game. Any engagement with more than 1 enemy makes the stone sword better than the stone axe.

Swords has better dps than axes. I do keep a smite axe for undead but use my sword for everything else.

It's complicated, sweeping edge enchantment and better swing speed make late game swords better than axes, but in Java edition experienced players never bother with stone swords in the early game phase

I hate fighting with a axe, the slow swing speed is such a chore to handle, especially with mobs like the creeper

Tbf, the sword can be used faster than the axe on Java, and sweeping strikes just happen sometimes when hitting a small clump of mobs. Axe also loses 2 durability when used to attack, so it breaks faster

Attack speed doesn't usually have much of an impact since your not hitting anything at max DPS except the slower mobs and items like shields exist but even if it hurts me to say it even as an axe main since 1.9, the sword is better for 1 reason. Looting 3 ...
