Chris Remo

Hello, solvers! I apologize for the silence from this channel over the last few days. Earlier this week, the New York Times Tech Guild, whose members contribute to NYT Games, went on strike, and I decided to refrain from posting that day’s solve as an expression of support.

Unexpectedly, this triggered the sudden realization of how overloaded I am at the moment in terms of my total daily workload and number of life commitments, much more than when I began this series, for a variety of coincidental and interlinked reasons. I also was then struck by the fact that I hadn’t taken a single day off from this channel since I began The Daily Solve more than three years ago (including the times when I was, ostensibly, on actual holiday).

So I am very sorry there wasn’t more warning about this, but I am going to take a (hopefully short) break from posting daily videos. Thank you to my Patreon supporters, whose support has motivated me to continue this much longer than I had originally anticipated. I will pause Patreon billing, which will avoid further charges until I resume.

I really appreciate all of you viewing these videos over the last few years! I’m a bit surprised it has worked at all, but I’m of course very pleased it has.

A well earned break. Make sure you get some real down time, and relax. Thanks for all your hard work and the fun solves along the way.

Thanks for this explanation, Chris. I was concerned for you when your videos just stopped so unexpectedly. Please take all the time you need to get yourself situated again. I will look forward to your return if/whenever you’re ready. In the meantime, I’m happy to continue my Patreon subscription until you decide to return. Enjoy your break and I hope the NYT Tech Guild strike is resolved to their satisfaction soon.

@VJShordee

I’m glad I found this. I was worried something health wise had happened to you. I didn’t even know this existed. I worked on today’s strands for 1/2 hour right after midnight I found so many words but absolutely nothing for the game. I thought how weird so I needed your help. See you when the strike is over

I started my crossword journey almost two years ago and a few months in it dawned on me that there has to be at least someone who solves NYT crosswords and breaks down clues as they solve (a “let’s play” for crosswords, if you will). Fortunately that led me to your videos, which I have been watching ever since. In an ironic sense of good news I have been watching your videos less and less as I have been able to solve crosswords on my own thanks to your videos. Mondays and Tuesday are a breeze, Wednesdays get easier by the day, but the rest of the week seems to still be a challenge (which is typically when I pop in to the channel now). I totally support your decision and hope you refresh on a much earned report away from these videos! Thank you for helping me grow with these videos and showing me a love for solving.

We’ll miss you Chris. Every day I solve the NYT puzzles with my teenage daughters. At the slightest hint of controversy, we say ‘whoa, Chris will have something to say about this!’
