Marry your way to a second passport?

We’re not in the business of matchmaking. But if you happen to fall in love with someone from the right country, you could end up with more than just butterflies.

You could get a passport.

There are countries that offer faster, easier citizenship just by marrying one of their own. No massive investment. No 10-year naturalization. Just a spouse and a little paperwork.

Here are a few standouts:
-Brazil. Just one year of residence with a Brazilian spouse. Diverse. Welcoming. This passport includes visa-free access to Russia.
-Mexico. Two years of residence after marriage. Dual citizenship is allowed. One of the best “Plan B” passports in the Americas.
-Portugal. Three years of marriage or cohabitation. No residence required.
-Israel. Complex rules, but if you qualify, the passport's strong and fast.
-Cape Verde. Instant eligibility upon marriage. One of the only countries to offer that.
-Ireland. One year of residence and three years of marriage gets you one of the best passports in the world.

But this isn’t the full list.

There are 14 countries where the right marriage opens the door to second citizenship. Some are tax havens. Some are lifestyle plays. Some are both.

Want to see if the country you’re eyeing is on the list?
