Imperialism destroyed their military. Colonialism and decades of nepotism. You have a “elite” full of incompetence and ignorance.

Lame. British soldiers who do war crimes MUST be held accountable
3 weeks ago | 6
Have they tried not doing war crimes and then covering them up? Why would anyone join the forces only end up questioning: "are we the baddies" because of systemic corruption. Try not being systemically corrupt and when you are at least be open about it and put things in place to stop it happening again. Same goes for the police and yet the reason they don't is because of staffing - this is the cause of your staffing problem guys. You stamp out corruption and you'll start seeing an increase both public trust and people wanting to join.

Considering the last few decades of military involvement in other continents, these laws seem very important. It's one thing when military protecting the sovereignty of UK, another when they were questionably involved in wars waged in regions like middle east.

Think lack of civilised behaviour in military conflicts is destroying humanity
3 weeks ago | 1
My immediate reaction is that it is being used as a Trojan horse. It's being used as a device to erode Human Rights law which benefits all citizens. Or in other words, it is simply an argument being used to destroy the Human Rights Act 1998. If it really is a legitimate problem for the armed forces, just simply dis-aply it to the armed forces personnel. That's how it used to be done, many acts just didn't apply to the Crown. But it's worth remembering the Human Rights Act does not give British citizens unreasonable rights, just very basic foundation le el rights: namely the right to a fair trial, the right to practice your religion, a right to freedom of assembly the right to hold your political views and the right against torture and degrading treatment (which labour is trying to remove). I think anyone advocating removing those basic rights really has questionable values. In any event many of the rights aren't even absolute many are qualified rights meaning they can be avoided in certain circumstances.

Why would a white boy from a council estate now sign up to protect people who hate him and treat him as a second class citizen?

Is Human Rights Law Destroying Britain's Military?
WATCH NOW: https://youtu.be/VCmUz89pP80
It's a very special episode of the General and the Journalist this week. Patrick and Tom are joined by General Sir Nick Parker, who was Patrick's mentor in the army, to talk about a letter they and six other four-star Generals have signed, calling for an immediate end to retrospective legal cases being brought against former servicemen and women.
This is not only undermining the very basis of the compact between soldier and state, but it's also jeopardising operations in the field, a fact Patrick and Nick confirm when they discuss the departure of a "significant" number of Special Forces officers who've handed in their weapons rather than risk being dragged before the courts on some as yet unknown charge.
The army’s most senior former officers have accused the prime minister of allowing human rights law creep to undermine the effectiveness of Britain’s armed forces. In an unprecedented intervention, nine four-star generals signed an open letter in The Times to coincide with Armistice Day on Tuesday, the moment the nation remembers its forces’ sacrifices.
They warn that soldiers’ trust in the legal system has deteriorated so badly that it now “risks everything”.
The collapse of faith is stripping UK troops of their fighting edge, just as the threat of new wars rises again and a major new force is being prepared to keep any peace in Ukraine, the generals claim.
