38% got the previous question right! Can we get 50% on this one? https://youtu.be/QRDQamAPC4E for more info on this topic

You keep getting me with these “all of the above” questions. I read the first answer I see and pick it.

Of course, I clicked after reading just one option.

Doctors love to remind me of this and then offer no alternative solution for my pain

I was prescribed 800mg as needed since 13 for severe period pain, and basically lived on that until I finally got an ultrasound and confirmed several huge cysts which I ironically thought was kidney or back pain for the longest time. Dr. I saw in college was nice enough to give Toradol once a month or so, which was much more effective and led to overall less NSAID use. But yeah, I think most patients know we’re overdoing it and what we’re risking, but we aren’t being given any other options either.

On the other hand, not taking ibuprofen at the start of a migraine will cause me to get a proper migraine, and then I lay on the bathroom floor, crying and puking from the pain. Like so many things there is a window of how much is good.

Decades of Ibuprofen use caused an ulcer that eventually ruptured and killed my father. He took 1 800mg pill a day. Be safe out there.

I’ve experienced the gastrointestinal ulcers myself 🥴 glad I switched medications before either of the other options happened

Love the fact that my doctors say “take 800mg of ibuprofen around the clock for 4-5 days a month to manage endometriosis pain :) it’ll probably be fine”

Well I'm happy I got this right. After rejecting Ritalin as a child I was ostracized for having ear infections when I got older, I read the instructions on every single painkiller that I took

I could take ibuprofen every day for the rest of my life and never develop any of these. That’s because all of these take more than an hour to develop, and I’m allergic to ibuprofen, so that’s how long the rest of my life would be.

My mother experienced severe bleeding from ulcers in her intestines as a result of nsaids she was on following her partial hysterectomy. She collapsed at home, and if I hadn't missed the bus to my own doctor's appointment, I wouldn't have been there to call emergency services. In the end she needed two rounds of blood, and now she has to avoid nsaids altogether, it was scary stuff. Painkillers are fantastic to have. I can't imagine living in a time when I couldn't pop a pill for a headache. But they can still be dangerous. Always follow the directions on the label, and never take gastrointestinal discomfort lightly if you're on heavy painkillers.

Doctors literally tell you to use it every day tho smh I ended up with ulcers twice! I was even prescribed it after my last 3 surgeries; one being a GI surgery lol 🤦‍♀

Was diagnosed with MS. Had terrible, continuous Headaches. Was alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen. 9 months later, fell out while at work.7 days in hospital, 5 transfusionsand a couple clips on the 2 ulcers. Guess what I don't take anymore?

@gam3kid

If your in excessive pain you can pair with Acetaminophen. I was maxing out my dosages for weeks and the doctor didn't say there was anything wrong with it.

Yeah, I got gast. ulcers from overusing Ibuprofen. Now I take Pantoprazol for those ulcers. You see where I'm going with this

How do we define inappropriate use?

@MissApprehension

I habitually overdosed (heavily) on ibuprofen one week out of the month for years. I now have kidney disease. Doctors wouldn't give me anything substantial for the pain (I didn't want opioids, just maybe a smooth muscle relaxer) so, to keep going for that week I had to do what I had to do. I wish things were different, but it could be worse.

In my dad's side of the family we have a blood disorder called Osler Weber Syndrome. My grandma on his side died in hospital as a result of being given blood thinners - I can see now why my dad tells me to stay away from things like ibuprofen; but I do get pretty bad migraines and panadol or aspirin alone never seems to help. This is interesting to learn tho
