The white rhinoceros, one of the largest land mammals, has two horns composed entirely of keratin—the same protein found in human fingernails and hair. Unlike true horns, which have a bony core, rhino horns lack bone.

The front horn is typically larger than the rear horn. Rhinos use their horns for defense, protecting calves, and practical tasks like breaking branches, digging for water, and creating mud wallows.
