Arnold Betrays Iggy is an absolutely HEAVY episode...
We might just be due to dive into it here very soon!

I have to ask though, do YOU think that Arnold deserved the punishment that Iggy gave him?

@firemiracle

What kind of question is that?? Of course Arnold didn’t deserve it!!! Sid and stinky were the ones responsible for finding out the secret!! What upsets me more is that Arnold tried so hard to tell iggy that he told nobody yet iggy refused to listen. Honestly I am glad that iggy no longer was part of the secondary cast after this ep, he’s the absolute worst character in the show.

To be fair I interpreted this episode as showcasing how Arnold can sometimes try too hard to make others feel good at the expense of his own interests. Arnold apologized sincerely but Iggy wasn't satisfied, he didn't want an apology, he wanted revenge. At that moment Arnold should have felt satisfied with his efforts. Maybe he didn't earn forgiveness but that's not his problem, it's Iggy's. If you hurt someone the right thing to do is to try and make amends, but if you feel that you're asked to do much more than what you think is fair, then it's okay to forgive yourself and move on. Of course don't take it as an excuse to not apologize or to not even bother with patching things up, in other words be cold headed about it and just aim to do what you honestly think is right.

Arnold was like NINE y’all, he was a little kid who made a mistake.

Arnold DID give Stinky and Sid too many clues. Right down to "It was something that he was wearing." But, Arnold's friggen nine and his friends were pestering him into giving them hints.

This episode should have been about Arnold and Gerald working together and tricking Sid and Stinky into confessing before Arnold's time ran out and he had to do The Walk. Arnold's only sin in this episode is his writers totally wrote him out of character.

Arnold had every chance to avoid it. If he seriously couldn't control his laughter on the bus, he could have just told Stinky and Cid that "oh, it's just a joke Gerald told me" and then try to stall them until he could think of a decent joke. Instead, he kept leaving breadcrumbs. He told them "something happened at Iggy's house" and "it was something he was wearing." He has no one to blame for them finding out but himself. I get that it would have been hard to make the plot work if Arnold was sensible, which might be one if the reasons why it's often considered the worst episode of the series, but I dunno. I actually have kind of a new outlook on the episode after your analysis, and I do, at least, think the climax was powerful. Maybe the episode isn't as bad as people say.

I think this episode might’ve been forgiven if it was Sid & Stinky who got the punishment instead. Iggy can be angry with Arnold because he kinda let it slip. But it was their fault. Like Iggy could cut Arnold so e credit with having him clean his house, but Sid & Stinky deserve the walk of shame. Also for all the grief this episode caused. Why did Iggy even wear the bunny pajamas in the first place? Was it a Christmas story thing or more like Linus & his blanket? I’m so looking forward to doing my video in addition to yours

@scarlitt_sm

what makes it worse is that arnold never got over it, he remained angry about the humiliation he went through and could not forgive anyone for it

@jafeir

He didn't deserve the humiliation. But I'll say this much, he probably needed this in order to teach him that some friendships aren't worth saving and forgiveness isn't worth your self-respect. I wish it didn't take this moment for Arnold to realize that Iggy's friendship and forgiveness wasn't worth it in the end if this is what it took for him to get it. But at the very least he learned from it and dropped Iggy

After all the people Arnold has helped they all laughed at his misery especially Helga who loves him, and at least Gerald and a few others weren’t there. Sid and Stinky are definitely the worst friends ever and even after this episode Arnold is still friends with them

He never even told. Other kids guessed and he froze for a second. Not his fault other kids are jerks.

Arnold definitely DIDN'T deserve the embarrassment he received due to Sid and Stinky figuring out about Iggy's bunny pajamas.

@btshea9537

Arnold did not deserve this! Sid & Stinky took a wild guess about Iggys pajamas and Arnold very clearly tried to cover it up saying he absolutely did not wear them. Then Iggy humiliated Arnold in front of the whole town! Definitely the worst episode of Hey Arnold

Fun Fact, Craig Bartlett hated this episode. And even requested it air as little as possible.

I think a few episodes before this, Stinky was made fun of by that agent/producer, and he didn't like that, refusing to sign the contract. But he's ok with making fun of others? Talk about morals, I did not enjoy this episode.

No one deserves to be humiliated like that... but let's face it, Arnold could have avoided all this mess too.

Sid and Stinky deserve at least 50% of the blame they were prying on what happened at Iggy’s house and were not letting up and lastly they never came clean. Iggy only heard them admit it as a side note and never directly. The two never took any responsibility. Iggy in my mind does deserve at part of the blame for not letting Arnold explain about what had happened and also for his behavior towards Arnold afterwards and lastly I do believe that sadly Arnold does deserve a very tiny bit of blame. His silent reaction towards Stinky and Sid uncovering the truth was enough for them to see that they were right. Although, I do have to give Arnold some credit as he did try to explain it to Iggy unlike Sid and Stinky.

This never would've happened if Arnold didn't say, "It was something he was wearing", and lied to Sid and Stinky

@ducky138

I remember as a kid being annoyed that Arnold went through with it. He was being honest, apologized as much as he could. He should’ve told Iggy he wasn’t doing that walk of shame and just moved on. ((But that would make for a boring cartoon))

Sid and Stinky were the worst
