Man I loved sleeping dogs back in the day, shame it never got a sequel or anything

Saints Row 2 was just on another level. In my opinion it had its own unique charm unlike any other open world crime game, It truly in bodied the mid 2000’s. But maybe that’s just the nostalgia talking. Still one of my all time favorite games even though I don’t have a way to play it anymore.

Sleeping Dogs was a whole vibe. It was supposed to be True Crime Hong Kong but Square Enix picked it up after Activision canceled it for what ever reason. Still love that game but Saints Row came the absolute closest out of all of them. It is a crime how mishandled the franchise was due to incompetent and soft corpo suits at THQ Nordic and Deep Silver

Saints row 2 and 3 always hold a place in my heart. Playing as a crime boss was dope at 6-7 years old. Way before ei played GTA 5 at 14

Easily Saints Row, it was basically for a time a competitor to GTA...then The Third came out and it was downhill from there.

The Getaway: Black Monday is severely underrated, and it arguably feels like a bridge between GTA's older and newer eras

I find it funny that the reason Saints Row fell off is because they wanted to distance themselves from being compared to GTA. Saints Row 2 was being compared, and still is to this day, to GTA San Andreas. That speaks volumes about how good that game was. If they kept up with that, maybe Volition would still be a thing today.

Sleeping dogs feel like yakuza and GTA slapped together to create an awesome game and it sure did just that

True Crimes was a game that felt like GTA but you're playing as a cop in an open world game. I feel like True Crimes is a perfect GTA competitor.

Sleeping dogs is amazing although I don't bunch it in with saints row and gta. It's more like a playable Hong Kong crime drama.

The Getaway titles were so good, the stories & cutscreens were outstanding. Used to be fun having police chases on there, finding the hidden special vehicles and flying around recognisable areas of London. Would love to see it rebooted or remastered but only if they kept the same energy and correctly updated the controls and mechanics.

The getaway 2002 was definitely competition to GTA 3, they even mocked characters from that game in gta vice city!

The fact we got the entire Watch Dogs Trilogy+ DLCs in-between GTA 5 and 6 is insane. WD wasn't on par but at least ubi gave us new cities and stories while Rockstar just charged you sharkcards for flying cars...

What older open world crime game was the closest to being a true competitor to the GTA series?
