I mean we're starting to get extra content aside from just new levels like custom item rules and new characters so if that continues then it could last for quite a while. All Mario Kart 8 really needs is a better kart variety and then it's basically the definitive Mario Kart game.

Honestly I don't know why people are so obsessed with getting a new game, I mean, yes Deluxe is a port of a 9 year old game, but we basically got an entire new one added on top of that as DLC and Nintendo is even making balance patches something we have never seen before in Mario Kart. I would rather have them add more content to 8 Deluxe until something new comes than having to play the same base game until then.
