I have just learned that the creator of Final Fantasy Sonic X (Rob Lewis aka BlackDevilX) has sadly passed away. He was another juggernaut of the Newgrounds and Spriters community that undoubtedly shaped many peoples childhoods.

Rest in peace, Rob. May future sprite animators and game designers you helped inspire continue your legacy.

I remember watching every episode of Final Fantasy Sonic X once I got home from school. And, once I heard the news that he has passed away, it brought me to tears. Thank you BlackDevilX for all of your hard work. Rest in peace, Bob Lewis.🕊

@CouchRadish

Crazy to think how people who watched you and Rob growing up are now the ones that are making creative choices for the Sonic franchise. Seeing Sonic in Frontiers where he grabs Knight’s sword immediately reminded me of FFSX (whether it was an intentional reference or not) and IDW writers using Metal Sonic’s “I’LL CRUSH YOU” line in official Sonic material. I hope he understood the impact he’s had on the community. Yours too.

The creator of my all-time favourite flash game. I played FFS6 so many times that I've memorised the dialogue. That was my introduction to Cloud, Link, Soma Cruz, Mega Man X, Zero, Mecha Sonic, and Ciel. That made me an anime/jrpg fan, and a fan of sprite animation before I even knew what those were. RIP to a childhood legend. Several times, I've recognised the music in the game when I got older and actually watched the anime or played the games the soundtrack came from. Thank you. I will always treasure those memories.

That takes me back. That one expert challenge was no joke. Rest in peace, good sir. Your games brought joy to a good part of a generation of players.

I used to play the series whenever I got access to a computer, they’re probably the reason I got into RPG’s and was the only decent sonic games I could play for a long time, Rest In Piece Rob and thank you

F. We just lost a real one. May he rest well. I remember playing that game on repeat at the time it was new. Truly, those were better times and his game was part of that.
