Hey everyone! I know many of the viewers have left New York and still watch the content to keep up with what's going on for when they come back. I am brainstorming a video about the reasons people leave NYC. If you want to possibly be featured in it, tell me in a comment below what factor/s led you to leave the Big Apple? Thanks.

Jon, I now live in central Georgia. NYC is still my city of birth. Watching your videos keeps me up to date with how the city is changing and evolving. Please keep up the great work. I originally came to Georgia (2007) to care for an aging parent (Mother). She passed away in Dec 2020. I have stayed down here because I have gotten used to the slower pace of life in my older years (65). Your videos are a wonderful way to save money and time when I come back to visit NYC. Thank you!

Born, raised , and lived in Upper Manhattan for 58 years and thought I would never leave. The noise, crazy neighbors, and not feeling safe on the subway and in my neighborhood led me to leave and I had a rent stabilized apartment. Now I have quiet and fresh air. I'm only an hour away and I still go in occasionally. The other night I had dinner with friends in Chelsea.

To all those people that left because of the HCOL but still love the city, you don’t have to live in NYC to be a New Yorker. Many blessings🗽❤

Left in Summer 2021 after Covid. My rent went up, and I wanted to be closer to family, so I moved to Seattle. I miss NYC, particularly the food and public transit. But I realized that I stayed home most of the time in NYC because I couldn't afford to do anything. I came back this summer for Pride Week. I saved my money and did absolutely EVERYTHING I missed doing. Filled my cup until next year 🙌

After living in NYC for 50 years and seeing ALL THE CHANGES. I realized my old NYC is gone. The NYC I remember has disappeared. The high cost of living and homeless people with mental issues would approach me. That was the scary part. I moved to a small town and I'm happy there.

I have not left NYC yet. I do love New York however the cost of living is one of the reasons why I want to move. The crime is definitely growing. I still live with my mother in a beautiful house in Queens. However the neighborhood has dramatically changed. I'm trying to go through affordable housing and even that can be a big joke...places are like minimum 70G and up in some areas.

Live in the suburbs now but still take my kids into the city to enjoy all the different events, lots to do and see and amazing food!

I moved from NYC to a small town in New England in the summer of 2023, after 20 years in the city, mainly to be closer to my family. Worst decision of my life - even though i'm physically closer to my family, I'm not closer in any meaningful sense of the word. ALSO - monetary cost of living was NOT, in fact, higher in NYC, period. I have plenty of boring spreadsheets to back up that statement. From a subjective point of view, I 'lived' in NYC as opposed to merely existing. Just my POV, and more than happy to expand on it in any future video of yours!

I left nyc plenty of times went to the south for cheaper rent mostly but always end up coming back I haven’t moved in the past 6 years nothing will ever compare to nyc life yes it’s expensive but atp it’s expensive everywhere and nyc has many opportunities to make alot of money also nyc clothes and food is much cheaper than most places I have done my research and like I said I moved plenty of times and always come back I would love to be in the video been watching you for years !! @slowdownnb

I left in 2021. I moved to Washington State to be closer to nature and prime hikes. ADK in NYS was wonderful but 4 hour drive and a ton of tolls was hard to justify as a weekend trip. Also for me NYC is far away from the coolest places in the country (like National Parks). Here in WA everything is within 2 hours of flying, even Alaska! These are 2 main reasons that made me wanna make a move. But all the classic stuff like state + city taxes, filth, safety, increasing prices and so on, definitely overfilled my bucket.

Age is a factor. NYC isn’t as much fun when you’re 40+ and married as it is when you’re young and single. Most of your friends have moved out of the city - if not back to their home towns then at least to the suburbs - and they’re busy with work and family, so you rarely see them. For these reasons, the ridiculous cost of living is no longer worth it.

Left in 2006 lived in the same apartment for over 25 years prices kept creeping up so I started looking at property bought 2 acres with a house in Florida inland and my mortgage is still cheaper than my rent was back in 2006 with 2 acres this is my 5th year growing our fruit and vegetables don't spend no where near as much at the grocery store!

The cost of living is reason number 1 for pretty much everyone.

Haven't left yet, but seriously considering it. My partner and I are entering our 40s and we both have stable jobs that put us in the upper middle class. We have a washer and a dryer in our apartment , come on. 😁 Still, in New York it doesn't feel like we will ever truly make it. Buying your home and living comfortably still seems so very far away and nothing signals it will ever be better

As the years go by we slow down but the city does not.

I would assume for most people in general (not necessarily just your viewers, but all people leaving) it's the cost of living, and I'm sure there have been polls that show that. I know it's the reason I'm gonna end up moving to Chicago instead of New York when I move next year. I can't justify the price knowing I'll never be able to afford to start a family in New York. Chicago at least will be affordable as a city for at least another decade.
