The Gold Man

Would you like to be featured in my next video? Here's how!

This Saturday I will be releasing "Revenge of the Sith... 20 Years Later." If you've been a follower of my channel for a while now, you may be familiar with the video I made roughly two years ago "Revenge of the Sith... 18 Years Later." In my new video where I will be revisiting the movie, I will be readdressing the points I made in my video from 2 years ago along with some of the counter arguments people in the comments made.

So... if you would like to potentially be featured in my next video, and you are a big fan of the Star Wars Prequels (or just Revenge of the Sith specifically) then go watch or rewatch my video from two years ago and feel free to leave any comment disagreeing with a point I made. I want as many counter arguments to the points I made as possible. Your comment can potentially be featured in my new video. So the more the merrier!

@Megadestroy

I think Anakin's whole fall to the dark side would make so much more sense if we were just given the context to why he needed to be a master, which was glossed over in the film. In cannon, Anakin needed to be a master to access the restricted section of the jedi library, which contained information he believed could help him save Padme.

I think you were pretty spot on with a lot of your points. The big thing I disagree with you on is Anakin's Turn overall. I think a big thing that you left out in your Revenge of the Sith video is Anakin's 2 core flaws. Anakin has been shown to have a tendency to form an extremely unhealthy attachment to anyone he is close with not just Padme. He also has a borderline superiority complex. He genuinely thinks that he in his current state is almost at Yoda's level as far as strength and talent and this is highlighted on Mustafar when he states that he is "already more powerful than Palpatine". I didn't get the impression that Anakin betrayed the jedi just because he loved Padme. Padme was just the straw that broke the camels back. He Thinks that the Jedi view him as a lesser so when they put him on the council but tell him that he isn't a master he isn't upset that he doesn't have the title, this is just affirming his mindset that the jedi don't see him as an equal. Since all Palpatine does around Anakin is stroke his ego Anakin is more drawn to what he has to say. And I think you've understated just how close Anakin and Palpatine are. They aren't just friends, Palpatine has been Anakin's father figure since Anakin was 9. Whenever Anakin wanted Advice he didn't go to Obi wan he went to Palpatine. So I just assumed that Anakin told Palpatine about his dreams and his marriage to Padme. I don't think anyone who felt they've had a genuine bond with a trusted adult since they were 9 would just 100% accept that it was all a lie right away. And a small detail in the movie but maybe the most important one was Palpatine and Windu's comments that mirrored each other. Palpatine told Anakin that Dooku was "too dangerous to be left alive" after Anakin murdered him. Anakin felt like he made the wrong choice but when Mace Windu said Palpatine was "too dangerous to be left alive" Anakin in the moment saw 0 difference between the Jedi and the Sith. All that exists in that moment is what they have to offer him. Padme gets to live and Anakin is with people who value him or Padme dies and Anakin stays with the Jedi who he feels don't value him at all. And this may be reaching a little but Anakin/Vader does have the mindset of "it being too late to change". He made a split second reaction to save Palpatine and assist in the murder of the second most prominent jedi in the entire order. He felt immediate regret but he now feels like he has chosen a side and if he turns back He has thrown away Padme and the jedi. The original video is still fantastic keep up the great work.

Anakins fall is so rushed and it’s even crazier considering Lucas had the trilogy greenlit before hand. Dare I say as annoying as how the sequels didn’t use their trilogy greenlit to potential

@JackCarter-g2y

Just to add to your point about Palpatine being too powerful: if he is so powerful then why can’t he sense Vader coming towards him and picking him up in episode 6 but in episode 3 he can sense that anikan was in trouble on mustafar, on the other side of the galaxy.

The Grievous vas Obi-Wan scene isn’t that bad it’s honestly my favorite part of the movie. I get it’s far from perfect but the action and visuals are so good and unique.

NGL, you inspired me lol. When making my "rebuttals" I decided to make a quick video about why Anakin's fall makes sense lol, probably too late to make it into your video since I am dropping it this Friday in the morning but it expands upon my few remarks in the comments section of the video

Alright, Revenge Of The Sith, the most overrated film in the saga even though the whole prequel trilogy is overrated as a whole.

The biggest criticism I had with your video was your critique of the Order 66 scene not being as impactful without John Williams’ score. I believe this was a massive nitpick as this logic can be applied to so many iconic scenes through film history, such as Yoda lifting the X-Wing or any scene in Interstellar.

@cjk225

Gotta be the most overrated movie of all time.

@A.Pearson

The revenge of the sith has aged incredibly well in the current political climate, with the radicalization of young angry men, how democracies become dictatorships etc.

No counter arguments… I really agree with you and I too heavily dislike the ovverated prequels… thanks for making your videos

On macrolevel I think the films are brilliant and for a specific reason. Most people say the clone wars was what fixed the movies. But Lots of reactors now who watch the progression pick up on a lot of details about anakins fall. His distrust of the jedi, his temptation to the dark side, etc. Things that added to his motivation besides trying to save padme. These were all things that the clone wars would drive home moreso but the fact that newcomers catch on to it indicates the pieces were all there they just weren't executed correctly. The one point that to this day I have a hard time making a case for is him killing the younglings. The only explanation that I ever heard that even came close was the book explanation saying that anakin saw the slaughter as what was necessary for him yo become powerful enough to overthrow Palpatine. Almost a sacrifice now for the greater good later. But if that's what it was supposed to be the motivation, it is not made clear

Quick rebuttal to your point about how Anakin should've noticed Palpatine's red flags. While it may be obvious to us, for someone as emotionally vulnerable and unstable as Anakin it makes sense why he wouldn't see this. Unfortunately it is extremely hard for people in these situations to leave or notice the signs due to a plethora of psychological reasons. Anakin viewed Palpatine like a father because he confided so much in him, which is why despite the numerous red flags Anakin stayed. That being said, one of the biggest problems with the Prequels is that it leaves too much stuff out and leaves too much for interpretation. For example, the Jedi Attachments rule actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it, but it was executed in such a terribly expository manner that the Jedi come off as emotionless stoics. Similarly, we really should've seen Anakin and Palpatine's relationship much further. Not just serious conversations in offices, actually enjoying each other's time with things like food, sporting events, or exchanging gifts. That way it makes more sense to the audience why Anakin would ever be manipulated by Palpatine.

I believe that order 66 is the tragic part of the movie, not just with kids being killed by clones and Anakin, but most Jedi masters being killed across planets because they’re too busy fighting against Separatists droids. Then, they were off guard when order 66 happened.
