Drove past the Berlin Airlift Memorial on the A5 outside Frankfurt Airport last night, a place where I used to see Hercules and other US Transport planes lined up and parked, the memorial is flanked by a C46 I think it is, and a C47, great planes and brave men who flew them! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Never forget, Celer et Aud

Did a combat drop onto Grenada in 83 for Urgent Fury, but we only dropped 6 companies or so. It was rather zero dark-thirty when we did it and there wasn't much of a view. Course, we were rather busy securing the airfield, but when 82nd came in it was full light and they only dropped a brigade and that was a sight. Nothing like Varsity though, but still it was an awesome sight. Didn't have long to admire the view because there was still work to do. Cheers from a former Ranger.

Using elite paratroopers for the job they were trained for. Excellent. Better than wasting them as regular infantry as in the Ardennes.

I had not realised that large scale airborne was used beyond D-Day and MG. Germany could never have successfully invaded UK; they hadn't the materiel or comprehension IMHO
