windows defender and the occasional malwarebytes scan

Although I’m an extreme beginner in the whole cyber security space, ive found that a huge chuck if not all viruses are self inflicted, so i practice safe browsing

I find windows defender to be pretty good but using my brain to make wise choices with the addition of a VM is generally all I need. I’ll sometimes use malware bytes to do a scan. I also use a file shredder

I am using Kaspersky for years and I believe nothing can compete its advanced threat detection

Now using ESET Nod32. Have used Avira, AVG, Avast (free), Bitdefender (free) and Kaspersky Internet Security before. ESET seems to be super lightweight and efficient in terms of resource usage among them.

Windows Defender, however a very good reason is I share my 365 family subscription with family members, who can add 5 devices each. I then monitor them through the Defender App, its the only easy way I've found of monitoring so many devices centrally and it's proving its worth. I also have devices that aren't used much at all, so just use Defender as I don't do anything silly and it's been pretty consistent

On all computers I maintain, I only use built in Windows Defender. If for whatever reason, I need to scan a system for viruses, I boot from live usb with Kaspersky Rescue Disk

Windows Defender is my main. I do have Malwarebytes installed in case I want a second opinion though.

I've used most of the big names and some smaller names, over the past decades. Norton, McAfee, F-Prot, VET, Kaspersky, Avast, Avira, AVG, CA, Eset, Trend Micro, Fortinet, Malwarebytes and Sophos, but none of them seem to have been able to come close to how Bitdefender consistently provides some of (and usually the) best coverage, whilst causing the least impact to system performance.

For the last 10-15 years I have been using the free Comodo Internet Security Complete simply because I can go quite deep into the advanced settings, it has both, an antivirus AND a firewall, which I find really useful at times, its detection rate is also quite nice, but I also am quite aware of how should I use the web, so can't tell for a fact how good it actually is. I use it in tandem with the free Malwarebytes for occasional scans and have found maybe a dozen threats over the decade, most of which were false-positives. Would really love to see what you think of the free Comodo IS Complete set, though.

Is Windows Defender good enough though? Kaspersky has protected me very well in ways I feel like WD wouldn't, but I haven't really tested it.

Looking at the results of this poll, it is really concerning a bunch of people rely on windows defender as thier main AV.

I used to use the Zone Labs internet security suite.... Their stuff became complete garbage after Zone Labs got bought out by Checkpoint. Every version was worse than the last. I finally ditched it, and moved to a similar package from Kaspersky. I find it to be light, fast, and very effective..all while not causing any impact to system performance. It's like what Zone Labs' product was like in the pre-checkpoint days. I pair this with Malwarebytes premium... seems like it works well.

I use trend micro for my protection. Personally, use it on my phone, though. I don't use my laptop enough to know if it is recommendable. My phone hasn't felt more secure, though.
