Be honest… when’s the last time you used your table saw blade guard? Most folks take it off and “mean to put it back on later”… but never do. Is it actually too clunky? Or are we just lazy? Drop your confessions 👇 (no shame — we’ve all been there).

Tablesaw blade guard? Never heard of it

I almost never use blade guards. I understand freak accidents can happen, but I do believe a woodworker ought to be smart enough to keep his hands away from a saw blade.

I’ve hated every blade guard I’ve ever used. IMO it makes the saw almost unusable. A riving knife, good push block, and a present mind

I use the blade guard all the time especially with the Shopsmith table saw configuration. Shopsmith to the best of my knowledge was way ahead of the pack years ago by including a riving knife and anti kick back paws as well as a guard that flips up when measuring. Love it!!!

I use it for almost every cut. I hate the idea of the exposed blade. Plus, it’s attached to my riving knife and stop guards, so why remove it?

I used to never use it. Then I cut half my dominant hand thumb off, and after a month of healing, I now have a hard time doing normal day to day things because I was careless. Now I’m never taking it off. Do yourself a favor folks: put your blade guard on.

I use mine whenever i can. I respect this tool, as it easily can take my life away in seconds.

Had a big piece of wood kickback and it hit me square in the chest one day years ago when I wasn’t using my blade guard. That was the last time I didn’t use my blade guard.

I’ve always had older used saws without guards. But even when I bought a portable table saw that had one I cut it up and just turned it into a riving knife. Even when I was in highschool the wood shop table saw didn’t have a guard on it.

I have a sawstop and still use my blade guard. never a problem unless doing thin cuts or non thru cuts

Mine was broken when I got the saw, I still have the parts but never got around to finding the replacements. I intend to replace the saw at some point in the next year though so I’ll probably not worry about fixing the blade guard.

As a noob, I always use it. I would rather have a barrier between the blade and my stupidity & inexperience.

I took it off once because the riving knife was causing a problem. I adjusted it, and have not taken it off since.

Every day, it holds down papers in my inbox.

Never have used a guard. Push sticks, push blocks, feather boards, and correct blade height are enough safety for me, and I've never had any issues.

Used to be never. I now started using it whenever the cut allows me to do so. Dewalt cordless only takes a minute or two to switch out and stows easily on the saw. I hook up two vacs if cutting inside and on most cuts it’s pretty good.

I'm totally going to put it on today

I've never taken mine off. Of course, it was never installed to begin with, but I have technically never taken it off.

@johnhill8958

I use mine all the time when the cut permits. Only times I don't are groove/dado cuts, and when I have to use an auxillary fence for narrow pieces.
