Hello, I'm Spanish and I love my history and the imperial era (or golden age like we call it), and even though I like the movie and the way my country is treated, the ending ruined everything. If we Spaniards had taken the source, we would have used it for our own benefit or that of the king; the conqueror himself may have even claimed it as his own. Spain faced many wars and problems and took advantage of any resource to defend itself from other European kingdoms. The end was to return to the black legend that we Spaniards were only ultra-religious bloodthirsty people, forgetting explorations, art, literature and so on.
