FINALLY finished this monster of a Viktor video!! Hard to get the complete picture, but I think these tools for understanding him gave me enough to leave me satisfied with his story. Let me know your thoughts!

This was an epic video. It reminds me of Gurren Lagaan's idea of DNA and spiral power - that in all life lies the ability to live, improve, grow and connect!

So good! Expanded on past ideas and explained so much! I feel much more connected to that part of season 2 now!

To some degree, Arcane has always been about self sabotage being caused by internalized insufficiency and how being the oppressed often view their humanity and vulnerability as the cause for oppression as opposed to the oppressors. It’s not necessarily “about” Jinx and Vi or sisters, it’s just that that’s the catalyst for showing these themes. Viktor saw the cause of humanity’s and namely Zaun’s suffering as being their humanity, and decides to try to abandon it. By the end, we see that same humanity is what saves him. From the beginning, Jayce and Viktor put all their hope onto Hextech, onto magic, the abnormal, because they couldn’t imagine the world or themselves being okay without it. It’s searching for the domestic in the divine because they don’t know where else they could find it, a simple answer just isn’t acceptable for them. It’s similar to Jinx and Vi in how Jinx could let Vi in, they could have ran away together, but Jinx doesn’t want to feel weak and wants the kind of love that is more akin to reverence of a symbol that Silco gave her, not because that’s what’s genuinely fulfilling, but because she feels worthless without it. She viewed her vulnerability (Powder) as the root of her downfall and tried to eradicate it, but we see in the alternate universe and when she’s with Isha that that’s always been her strongest trait, and her creations that heal are so much more hers than those that destroy.

I mean we finally get to the part where people had enough time with Arcane season 2 to understand it. Which also proves my point that the only real critique thats valid about season 2 is miscommunication of time skips (mainly the time skip between Jinxes breaking the cycle and Cait x Vi) and forcing one interpretation of season 1 that was not commonly thought of as the narrativ they tried to convey (although they did), mainly around Sevika and Jinx. If we then sprinkle in the hole AU Viktor discussion (I still believe the mage and Viktor are two different entities and that there was no time travel involved) and the fact that people think that after season 2 we dont get any more stuff from Runeterra leaving a lot of endings quite open for a show that managed to manage arcs this precise seemed awful. Every other critique I saw just boiled down to season 1 has the same problems you described so why is it a problem in season 2 (like Isha being a clear side character that just is there to die. Well so was Sky. Or the important parts of arcs weren’t shown, mainly Jinx x Ekko. Well the key scene of Ekko and Powder was also cut in season 1 and still the pair worked and just delivered. Etc.). You do a great job. Keep it going.

I haven't seen your video yet, so for all I know you address what I'm about to say, if so I'll come back to this comment. I initially was of the opinion that Victor's arc (and the related Jayce arc and the hexcore storyline) were fine but I just didn't like that it was the focus of the s2 ending, moving away from the Zaun/Piltover/Vi/Jinx/Caitlyn dynamic which was the focus of s1 and I found far more interesting. Then I realized how nonsensical Victor's story is. In s1, we learn that Jayce was saved as a child by a mage (who we know now was victor but we didn't know that yet obviously). The mage gives him a rune and Jayce is forever inspired to bring arcane magic to piltover to help people. I of course assumed the rune served as a physical reminder and nothing more, that jayce's experience was what inspired him. But apparently victor had to try giving jayce different runes to get to the right version of events, so the rune itself is what was important, which i find to be an annoying retcon. And then there's Victor's goal being to stop himself from destroying the world. If the runes determined the outcome, why not just...not give jayce a rune and he doesn't become inspired to create hextech. The show can't have it both ways. Either the rune wasn't actually important and then it doesn't make sense that a specific rune solves everything, or it is important and so victor can just avoid the problem by not adding them to the equation. In addition to everything else, there are thematic issues with Victor's arc. The main thing is that the show is treating it as though victor and jayce are responsible for hextech's creation, which is true, except hextech and the arcane is a natural part of the universe and someone would have invented it. It's analogous to nuclear weapons in that way. Yes, a select group of people invented it in the real world, but it would have been invented at some point by someone eventually. In fact, in arcane we know that arcane magic has appeared before (heimerdinger remembers). All this to say, even if victor's arc made sense, the show doesn't address how someone else will just come along and bring arcane magic back to the forefront. And frankly i find it annoying that s2 takes what was originally an interesting and nuanced discussion about the risks and rewards of technology in s1 and turns it into age of ultron

This video is great, it explains so much but I feel like the show should have done a better job at delivering all this information. It really felt too vague.
