Have You Made a New Year Resolution?

Damn right i did. After actually managing to surpass my goal of losing 20 lbs last year (i lost 50) for last year ima see how far i can push myself this year. So proud of myself, and hopeful for the next year.

At first I had the mindset: “why bother? I never keep to it.” But then I realized that if I can’t stick to my goals I’ll never achieve anything. This will be year of me developing my growth mindset

A reminder: changing your whole shit instantly is a great way to doom yourself to fail. Pick one thing you want to do differently and just focus on that, set obtainable short term goals for it. Instead of saying “I’m gonna get in shape this year” just ask yourself “what am I going to do for my health this week?” and do that every week. It’s fine to have a general goal of “I’m gonna get in better shape this year” or “I’m going to start playing an instrument this year” or whatever, but if you don’t give yourself short term goals to act as milestones of accomplishment you’ll get burned out and give up.

I made a resolution to get in shape, and I'm just waiting for all the gear to arrive. I'm definitely doing it this year. Already spend my hard earned money on it.

I start getting anxious about having to flip the calendar in September because my job works in quarters. One year I started implementing my 'New Year resolution' in September (Be A Better Listener) and it worked so well, I've never looked back. It makes January the perfect time to check in with myself on how it's going, and takes a ton of pressure off me for deciding what I should choose, because I can choose anew. It's made self improvement a rolling experience and it feels great

I don't do new year resolutions. If you want to make changes in your life, whether it's getting into shape, or spending less time on your phone, you shouldn't wait until the new year to start. Another problem people have is they make outrageously unrealistic goals, and end up giving up on them within a month

@Sybir.

Don't have a new year resolution, but I'll definitely be changing this year!

I made my resolution and began it a bit before the new year started, but I’ve been sticking to it ever since

The best way to keep a New Year's Resolution is don't see it as a temporary goal. See it as a ongoing goal that will help you reach along the way. Also try the Elastic Method to beat procrastination and burnout.

I just have goals based on my belief system, needs, responsibilities and desires. If something isn't good for me I'll try and change it when I discover "ah, it's not good for me". Not from a random date

@Abo_Edreas

My goals aren't tied to a date, I started it a while ago and I'm going to keep trying whether it's the eve of 2024 or the end of 2099.

@hanthonyc

Same shit different day, but that's because I like setting goals for myself OUTSIDE of the whole 'new year' thing.

Agree with that mindset. Reality check.

Yes, although I generally don't write it down and it's usually more granular than something like "get in shape". I think over the past couple years I've been pretty good with them though.

@hwk_9

My resolutions only apply to my sports: be better at roller skates and trampoline. My other goals are were the ones I set at the start of school year: good grades, get a job, driving license.

@WJINTL

Every day should have it's own resolution

@NCHCLW

If anyone is set on doing/starting something new, they won't wait for some arbitrary point on the calendar, they'll just do it regardless if it's March 20th or November 1st... New Year's resolutions are for the immature.

My New Year's resolution is to turn right back around and head out of the store if I go into a Target and I see a black dude there with dreadlocks. Otherwise, I might permanently end up in the back of the store with the rest of them!
