I tried to read this but DNF. I think I bought the wrong translation for my tastes (Kencho Suematsu). There are two other translations: Arthur Waley and Royall Tyler. Perhaps one day I’ll try one of these. Have been to the Tale of Genji Museum in Uji (outside Kyoto). Sadly not many exhibits in English and surprisingly the gift shop did not sell any copies of the book itself 🤷♀️. This is believed to be the first ever novel
