Short of the Week

COMING THIS MONDAY (OCT 20)

"I wanted to explore the conditions I experienced as a disabled person when living with undocumented Filipinos as a child, to raise awareness of this way of life in the UK."

Alo, an undocumented overseas Filipino worker, lives in an overcrowded house-share in London. He is struck by a latent bout of seizures which disrupts his living situation. The other residents are posed an ultimatum; should they risk Alo’s health or call an ambulance, potentially resulting in his deportation?

"When screening shorts with the hope of featuring them on S/W, I’m always looking to be surprised by something that feels truly new and distinctive - and Glen’s film is exactly that, without ever tipping into mere visual gimmickry. Its style is essential to its message, and if the filmmaker’s goal was to place her audience in the fragile position of her characters, I can’t think of a more powerful way to achieve it." - S/W Curator, Rob Munday
