TheCottageFairy

“For me, as for all children, the world could have come to seem a scary place to live. But I felt secure with my parents, and they let me know we were safely together whenever I showed concern about accounts of alarming events in the world. There was something else my mother did that I’ve always remembered: ‘Always look for the helpers,’ she’d tell me. ‘There’s always someone who is trying to help.’” - Fred Rogers (quoting H. James)

I usually like to keep the world beyond arms reach on this channel, and I plan to do that, but I did want to make one exception today to speak to those who are experiencing challenging times. Indeed, so many people in my life are full of fear with what is happening in my country right now. My Hispanic mother now needs to go everywhere with a passport to avoid getting questioned, my friends are terrified of being left without a job, local families that rely on public services are suddenly out of options. Older people at the grocery store have told me that I should speak to my baby in ‘American’ instead of sharing my Spanish language with him, which has been heartbreaking for him to witness at just 10 months old. It’s a scary and uncertain time for so many. I wanted to reach out to you with an open heart and send all my love ❤️

If you have felt overwhelmed lately, I encourage you to practice mindfulness. Sometimes that is all I can do when big emotions overtake me, to welcome my mind and soul to just be: to take away for a while the burden of scrolling, of absorbing endless information, of racing thoughts...
It’s a practice and not always easy to do, but in my own experience as a sensitive soul, it’s crucial to survive in a messy world.

I have a little fairy in my life who is growing stronger each day, and shows me that there is goodness and love and wonder around every corner, and that I need to be brave enough to seek it out even when it’s easier to lose hope and despair. I don’t want to choose the easy way, I want to be a ‘helper’ who continues to fight for a better world ❤️ until the very end.

Keep shining your light ✨

P.S. A few announcements since I’ve been away ⬇️
🍄For all those kind souls who have been messaging me on my Etsy shop: while I unfortunately am not able to sell physical artwork at this time, I do have some ebooks for download available that I hope will be enjoyed and bring some moments of peace. It was the best I could do for the time being - I continue to be active on Patreon and hope to come back to YouTube someday🥰

@Chechu.mjVlog

I'm so glad to hear from you! I miss your voice of peace and kindness on YouTube, but I understand! I spend a lot of my time at school encouraging my little South American student to speak Spanish as much as she can, as this too shall pass, and her heritage is a treasure. Love from Mississippi! 🙏❤

Thank you. I am a retired white guy studying Spanish in hopes of enriching my life with some Latin culture and arts. I love when you lace in some Puerto Rican references and experiences. My German mother was fluent in three languages and was passing in two more. Warmest wishes and much en"courage"ment to you and yours 😀

I think it’s great that you are teaching your son to be bilingual. My parents insisted that I speak Spanish inside our home when I was little. Today I am so grateful as I have been able to help so many people. Wish you well. 💜💜

Witness is everything. Thank you for sharing yours. This quote has been on my heart: “Know where you stand and stand there” -Fr. Dan Berrigan. That’s all we can all do right now. In the meantime, so many blessings to your cherub!!

I miss you all the time. From NC. By the time I discovered you, I feared it was almost too late. Thank you for popping in occasionally. You have become the fairy I hope to glimpse every now and again. You represent the wild, free spirit of the forest who isn't burdened by what the rest of us are. It is a beautiful thing to just imagine you out there living your best life away from the name-calling and double agendas. Keep being who you are. I need to keep believing.

I’m so glad to hear from you Paola. Your videos have changed my life in the year since I first found your channel. I watch a different one every night. You’ve helped me find and accept myself, and be excited about the type of life I could live. Your spirit is unmatched. I am sending love from Scotland to all of you in the US. These are scary times, but there are indeed always helpers, and good people, and visionaries for a better world, and we know the truth. None of this will corrupt our souls. Lots of love to you and Luke and baby ❤️🌺

Paola, thank you for reaching out and sharing your worry at the changed landscape of your country. Mary Oliver’s poem on the ‘ Grief of Wild Things ‘ speaks to my soul in these turbulent times. May peace abide within you and without you. A beautiful shot of you and your little one. Go gently!

Good to see you guys are growing and thriving! I love the Fred Roger's quote. I grew up as a bilingual kid, and can relate to this experience. My mom would always smile and gently let the person know that I was learning both languages because of how smart I was, that it kept me occupied in a store, but also that it was important for me to learn how to communicate with older family. This was usually enough. But, you can't please everyone.

I am so sorry you have been told to teach your child to speak American. That breaks my heart. Never change who you are. For it is kind souls like you that give me hope for the future of this country. Your parents have given you a gift. Thank you for sharing that with us.

@PoiseWisdomELEGANCE

There’s nothing wrong with keeping English as Americas first language. It’s ok to speak other languages here but the number one is English. It’s a common language everyone should know. As someone who’s lived in this country for 20 years I hate when I have to deal with someone who only speaks Spanish.

@Mishkamoreland

As somebody who has lost their ancestral language, I encourage you to speak Spanish to your son. I wish that my grandparents would have taught me their Polish language, because it is almost impossible to learn as an adult learner. It is such a difficult language and it is so sad that I don't have that connection to my heritage because America demanded that my grandparents fit in or else.
