I do genuinely dislike how I have to shift my titles and thumbnails to something more negative just for Youtube to recommend things. Not even talking about CTR or engagement, genuinely I get more impressions from YT when the title and thumbnail are more negative or click-baity. Maybe it's a chicken-egg situation, but it's annoying that Youtube will just decide certain videos deserve 500k impressions in one day or 20k impressions in one day for a different video.

That's so messed up. I often click "do not recommend channel" if I keep seeing negative takes rather than critical analysis.

The other wacky thing about YT is that it's becoming a fairly common practice among content creators to delete a video that underperformed, reupload it a month later with the exact same thumbnail and title, and then watch as it blows up. I've seen some videos 10x their total views in the first day. There's an element of random chance when it comes to YT videos. You can up your odds by making good quality content, but sometimes the content isn't the issue. Sometimes it just happens to roll bad on the dice and you gotta roll it again.

This is one of those unfortunate things that's always bothered me about the platform. Its saddening that many creators who make well-made content/critique have to resort to similar titles and thumbnails as bait/slop channels just to drive home engagement due to how negatively and sensationalism get more eyes, so it becomes a game of making the "packaging " (title/nail) of the video look as appealing as possible to fit that mold since it cares less for the actual "product". All in all this is probably one of the bigger reasons I haven't tried to make stuff even though I feel I could probably be really passionate about gushing the stories I like.

It really is. Youtube favors drama over genuine good content

I've noticed this myself. All my content that is true to my creative expression doesn't do nearly as well as my commentary/ranting style videos. And if I clickbaor, people click off. Idl if it's YT pushing drama or viewers wanting drama but it's exhausting.

Tbh rage-baity & click-baity thumbnails and titles makes me wanna ignore the video even more, because it makes me uncomfortable and upset. But hey at least the strategy works for you (sometimes) and you get more money!
