The fact that there are people who said Phil deserves to get kicked out just so they can make more money off of it really is a cruel joke. He didn’t deserve it at all.

I look forward to whatever content you wish you make. I definitely like the idea of you doing proper reviews. You have traits that would make for a great reviewer and/or commentator; you have an honest and unique perspective, you’re strongly opinionated but make room for some nuance. You’re also somewhat diplomatic, yet wisely blunt.

If only Phil and Mike would be able to reacquire VeggieTales since Universal had no idea what to do with it...

Really looking forward to the idea of reviews from you! Also, maybe this is just hopeful thinking. But I really wouldn’t be surprised if this movie doesn’t go anywhere. Not even because of fans backlash, because a lot of these announced ahead of time movies tend to fall through the cracks. maybe I’m just fooling myself.

Not too long ago, I saw a conversation on Twitter that Phil had. He was asked whether he was involved in the Larry-Boy movie. Unfortunately he confirmed that neither he nor Mike and the other Big Idea OG’s were involved with the movie. Which makes me [and most likely everyone else] very, VERY concerned about this movie. PS, I had a feeling the Jonah movie would be the final episode of VeggieSins, due to it being one of the big reasons for Phil’s downfall.

I mean, modern Big Idea is basically just the VeggieTales arm of Universal.

This…is sad! I nearly teared up reading that last part. It sucks that VeggieTales, the very show that taught many of us about God and his Word, was made with such tribulations. And by that, I mean the rights and creative control. This is a message to all you people who want to make a franchise of your original characters someday: KEEP YOUR CREATIVE CONTROL. At the end of the day until you pass away, YOU, the CREATOR, should have the final say-so of what goes into your universe. Giving it away is just asking for your life to be over…in show business anyway. Look at something like Phineas and Ferb, yes, Dan Povenmire and Jeff Swampy Marsh DID give Disney creative control, but as far as I’m aware, they didn’t give it ALL away, as that was their passion project. That’s why Candace Against the Universe did so well, because it had the original team behind it who knew what they were doing. Phineas and Ferb did well because, it knew when to quit. The team was very careful when making it, and even though Phil, Mike and co. did make some mistakes with VeggieTales financially, that doesn’t mean they should’ve squandered their creative control. Your CREATIVE CONTROL is YOU. If you made a show, would you want hippos dancing in their underpants while shooting water guns filled with pancake syrup? Probably not, since that wasn’t your vision. You GET to say NO to your team. It’s not being mean, it’s taking charge of your creation. I’m not saying to not consider others’ ideas and give them a try once in a while, but make sure you’re in a position where you’re involved and can ax the project with an iron fist if it’s not up to company standards.

Sigh... Well, now I'm at a crossroads.
When I announced that VeggieSins was going to end after Episode 26, I assumed that VeggieTales as a franchise was dead in the water; doomed to a life of half-baked podcasts, repackaged albums and general "content farming" for the rest of time. As such, I planned for the final episode to be "Everything Wrong With Jonah," the peak of Big Idea's success and the catalyst to its downward spiral. At some point in the video, I would've gone on a heated rant about every absurd business gamble Big Idea pulled just to make their first movie possible, how each gamble only served to put them so far in the red that "$26 million on a $14 million budget" wasn't enough to save them, and how Big Idea might be in a healthier position today (i.e. Phil Vischer would've maintained creative control) if the Jonah movie hadn't been rushed out the door. It's a rant that would've been in VERY poor taste if, say, modern Big Idea had the health and confidence to make another theatrical movie without Mr. Phil at the helm.
I mean.... ouch.
Sure, Big Idea's collapse in 2003 brought Phil closer to God and strengthened his theology, but I guess when the Christians with all the money have a choice between God or capitalism, they'll choose capitalism every time. "Well, Phil Vischer lost his franchise fair and square, so he doesn't DESERVE to get it back. Kicking him out is the only way we can make more money!" What a cruel joke.
I already didn't have the heart to keep making fun of classic VeggieTales for longer than 26 episodes, but all this news around the LarryBoy movie finally crushed my resolve. I no longer plan to "cancel" VeggieSins, but I'll have to put it on indefinite hiatus until I see box office numbers. If LarryBoy comes out without Phil's involvement, and the film is somehow successful enough to make twice it's budget back, then everything is over.
So, what am I gonna do with this channel for the next two years? Well.... maybe I'll do something that I should've done all along. Let's start dedicating this review channel to actual reviews, eh?
