I don't like how filling out the questionnaire is compulsory for men and voluntary for women. There needs to be equality.

I don't believe in conscription military service. It makes for a less willing military. Raise the wages and benefits and get people who actually want to join.

I feel sorry for those who are forced to do it. I am against conscription. Against anything that contains the word “mandatory.” Even filling out questionnaires is too much. There was a time when I needed the state. I had to wait a whole year for support. I have long since paid back my debts with taxes. Why should I care what happens to this state? If a war breaks out and they demand that I be drafted? F it. I will rebel. I hope that all these young people who are currently forced into this rebel too.

all the people making the decision to send young men to war are not among the people who will be send to war which is the only reason they propose this in the first place.

As a German I'm incredibly pissed that I am forced to pay GEZ with which they finance this pro millitary tv program. I am very much opposed to compulsory millitary service. And even though at my age (27) it is much more unlikely to effect me, compared to people under 18 right now. I believe it is an obligation of every generation to stand against compulsory military service.

We should solve all matters of war by having the politicians who declared the war duel personally.

I'm fine if they provide more incentives to join, but still voluntary. I don't want forced actions.

Having had my own service time wayback before the Guttenberg Moratorium, I am not too avers to the idea of thinking about how to do mandatory civil service in this age. But I also think the unequal burden needs to be fixed. On whether this all truly helps the military as a deterrent, I am not so certain. But I think, basic training at a young adult age and regular refreshers over the decades might actually be helpful in an actual outbreak of war... It is still inconceivable to me that we are at that point again!

It's hard to justify when the ideals that young people are supposed to defend do not really apply to them anymore. Einigkeit in the wake of political extremism, Recht when the CDU can just break it and Freiheit when there is limited freedom on how you live: you can't afford a house ever, no matter where. The outlook for the young generation is bleak and conservative politics are to blame for it as they ignored young people for decades. That it feels like we now owe this country anything is the straw that broke at least my back and I feel like I can't be the only one.

A shared EU army would make more sense. It would be more cost effective and by that we could also make the condotions for soliders so attarctive that a conscription model would not be needed. Furthermore less personal in general would be needed since we could profit of synergies this would generate.

I am for a compulsory service after leaving school. Not necessarily armed service let everyone decide what they do, and include men and women alike

Prevention is always better than trying to deal with the consequences. Instead of conscription to strengthen the military for the eventuality of war, prevent wars by forging alliances and supporting Ukraine. Good foreign policy is way more effective at preventing war than investing in a powerful army.

Honestly the only difference for now is that instead of 2 conscripts, it’s now 4 conscripts in basic training who will have to share a malfunctioning G36.

The real problem is that there is always a tiny minority of people who actually gets richer through war. The majority is dragged into battle only because at some point their only choice is to fight or to flee.

War with whom? Is there any single state which is endangering Germany? (other than Poland combined with Ukraine who together blew up a German-Russian gas pipeline)

I'm an Aussie who as a 20-year-old was caught up in Australia's involvement in the American imperialist war in Vietnam. The Australian government at the time (PMs ""Pig Iron" Bob Menzies, followed by "All the way with LBJ" Harold Holt) saw fit to reintroduce compulsory National Service for 20-year-old males for 2 years to bolster Army numbers for Australia's commitment to appalling war. I was one on the 20-year-old caught up in that and have vowed ever since that I will take political action/protest if an Australian government EVER "PRESSGANGS" YOUNG AUSTRALIANS INTO THE MILITARY DURING MY LIFETIME. Young Germans need to rise up against any form of compulsory military service. Too many young Australians needlessly lost their lives in Vietnam. Message from an old, world-worn, much travelled Aussie bloke.

As a "fighting capable man", I just don't see the point in it at all. If people feel that this is the job they want to do and the reason is to serve their country, and defend against "Evil Russia", then that's fine. I just don't feel that way...

The way they did it was by asking kids questions, specifically leading questions, and pressuring them with arguments of that they need to give something back to the government. Like mate, taxes? We pay taxes. It's disgusting what logo did there. It's directed at kids. And they do this to them. It is propaganda, and not the way things should work in germany. We are better than America. I am pro some military things. But it should give you additional benefits and voluntary, instead of being forced to. And the government shouldn't let the worth of benefits that we deserve because we pay taxes drop in worth, just because inflation has risen.

Whether it's climate change or geopolitics, problems don't disappear if you try to hide under a blanket. Liberty is built on solidarity without security for the Baltics and Poland there can't be security in Europe.

As an outside observer from a country with conscription, it is always interesting to see discussion about it in germany. To me, the way germany conducted their conscription before they abandoned it, was wrong. And personally i am in favor of conscription, because it is the overall cheapest way of having a big reserve and a young and fit infantery. Now to why i hink how germany did it before they stopped completely was wrong: They mustered every able bodies male, but then only 30% or so had to serve. And if you were selected to do so, but found someone who did your slot instead of you, you could escape. To me that is the problem. If there is conscription, then it should be everybody. People want to enjoy the benefits of a safe comfortable country, so they should all invest a little bit of time. Also, imo a "professional" army means problems for the soldiers for time on the work market afterwards. We can see that in many countries with professional armies: The majority can'T stay there until their retirement, because it is similiar to sports where physical fittness plays a big role, and you need young fit people for most of it. So you then have guys that do the soldier job for maybe 5-8 years. And then? Then they are disadvantaged in their original profession compared to those who did not serve and had those 5-8 years to build experience in their job. And you have small reserves for times of actual conflict. With a full on conscription for everyone, the reserves you have are vast, and the time you would need to retrain the reserves is short. To me the prime examples of how to implement conscription are Finland, Switzerland and Sweden. (The thing with switzerland i found so interesting long ago, was that they have their stuff at home. And in case of need, they are told where to show up and when. No need to waste time in getting everyone to bases, and issuing gear and clothes first and then trasnport them to where you need them.)

The German government is hoping to encourage young people to volunteer for the armed forces, in order to boost the size of the army due to what it sees as the increasing risk of a war. How do you feel about that?
