I know it's not strictly culinary, but I would really love for you to visit a traditional tea house. Tea culture is big in Taiwan and they have many killer oolongs. I think there is also video potential in there as tea and tea culture has a lot of history and lore:)

Went to Taiwan for the first time last month and all your IG content makes me want to go back! It's seriously foodie heaven. I wish I knew Mandarin, I feel like I only got to try a tiny subset of what Taiwan's food scene has to offer 😭

Taiwanese here. The Michelin guide has recommended restaurants and street food stalls in many of the cities in Taiwan. They are pretty legit and usually feature very local dishes / foods! For recommendation, I would highly encourage you to go to a stir fry place, or known as 熱炒店。These places usually whip up very tasty and interesting dishes like 鳳梨蝦球 (pineapple shrimp), 宮保皮蛋 (kung pao century eggs), and 金沙豆腐 (salted-duck-egg-yolk stir fried tofu)!

I used to work in a building at 500 Roosevelt road near NTU. On the street near the entrance of the building there’s a little shop that sells these meat filled buns that are cooked in something similar to a Tandoor oven. They’ve had lots of local media coverage and are regarded as being very good. I think they are worth checking out! A 牛肉麵shop I usually recommend in Taipei is called Lao Shan Dong, it’s a really popular spot and from what I understand they still make their own noodles in house. Of course you need to get some stinky tofu while you are there. I’ve never been to Shilin night market because all of my local friends told me to avoid it. Raohe night market at the end of the green line is much smaller but I liked going there for dinner occasionally. Finally, I think taking the gondola up to Maokong and getting some tea would be nice. There’s a spot up there that my wife and I always visit when we are in Taiwan that has outdoor seating that overlooks the city and has just lovely vibes. I loved my time living in Taiwan and hope you have a great time on your trip! 加油!

Go to a night market like Shilin. Start from one end and sample a little bit from each food cart you pass until you get to the other end. One of the most fun things we did during our Taiwan trip a couple of years ago!

I recommend checking out Yong He Soy Milk King in Da’an district! Delicious soy milk either hot or cold and you gotta pair it with their fried bread. We tried their other items too like the dumplings and egg rolls. Overall great cheap bfast meal

I really really love the Raohe night market in Taibei! Also, if you're planning to go to the South, Kaohsiung (高雄) was one of my favourite cities in Taiwan. I also really recommend a place called "Hou De Fu Soup Dumplings and Noodles (in Chinese: 厚得福湯包麵食賣店)". Hope you'll have a great time in Taiwan, I really miss it!!

the 麻油雞 at the 板橋夜市 is really good, it almost always has a line in front so it's easy to find

Oh hey I'm in Taiwan for a study program right now. Maokong has some nice views and tea fields. The food here is a mixed bag, after living here a while you kind of figure out what's special what's not. Let me know if you have any questions there's some quirky food history here on the island at times.

Try a pan fried radish bun! Stinky tofu and giant fried chicken. The desserts are really fun too! So much to eat! So little time!

This post got me to install Instagram. After being in Taiwan for 3 weeks this February and missing it since, I needed a dose of culinary greatness.
