"I will raise a Division of 23,000 SS soldiers for you"
In August 1945, during one of the American interrogations/interviews of Kurt Meyer, the former 12th SS Panzer Division general Hitlerjugend stated the following:
"I offer my services to raise a Division of some 23,000 members from the prisoners you currently hold belonging to the Waffen SS. This unit will be called "SS Division Europe", and will be equipped with German weapons and equipment. I will have no difficulty in enlisting the men necessary for that unit to take part in the fight against the east. Then, we will show them how the Germans fight."
Meyer believed that the Americans would need his help to confront the Soviets in the imminent future. Meyer's proposal was rejected.
