Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

🔹 ❛In it (i.e. Ramadan), Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.❜ 【Sunan an-Nasa'i 2106】

He ﷺ dispraised those who don’t take Laylatul-Qadr seriously, who don’t put the effort towards it. We can’t make up for Laylatul-Qadr — imagine losing a night, where doing one single khayr is worth better than 83 years! And remember, too, that Laylatul-Qadr is a night that can change our entire past and future.

🔸 Regarding one’s past, the Prophet ﷺ said: ❛Whoever spends the night of Laylatul-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.❜ 【Sunan an-Nasa'i 5027 | Graded Sahih】

All of one’s previous sins and dark past are forgiven forever. But if he oppresses someone without attempting to return the rights he took, then this is a very serious matter that needs fixing first before one can benefit from Laylatul-Qadr. Always make sure we cover our obligations, before focusing on the voluntary deeds.

🔸Regarding one’s future, Allah says: ❛On that night (i.e. Laylatul-Qadr) every matter of wisdom is ordained.❜ 【Surah ad-Dukhan 44:44】

Imam Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the decrees of the coming year are ordained on Laylatul-Qadr. Meaning, whatever happens to us next year, e.g. whoever is going for Hajj / getting married / cured of his illness next year / etc, is written on that night. So make du’a to Allah to decree only what is good for us, because Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

🔸 ❛Nothing repels the divine decree but supplication.❜ 【Sunan at-Tirmidhi 2139 | Graded Fair by Sh. al-Albani rahimahullah】

May Allah allow us to witness Laylatul-Qadr and accept from all of us.
