HEBREWS 12:14-15 "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled"
This patch of lawn grass you see here has a story. I planted it over a year ago, but it always struggles because my dogs are always digging and trampling in this area. Coupled with the lack of rain, the area stayed bare of grass for a while. With the few days of rainfall we got recently... lo and behold the grass sprouted up again. Why? Because the ROOTS were still alive under the soil.
This verse of Hebrews tells us that we must be vigilant and mindful to address and remove the roots of bitterness that may spring up and cause us and those around us to become defiled. Roots of unforgiveness, anger, the hurt we experienced in the past, church hurt roots of hurt from rejection, trauma from childhood, trauma from abuse.... if we deal with the surface and forget the root, it WILL spring up as soon as it gets triggered by life events, just like the rain triggered the regrowth of the grass. My brothers and sisters, look INWARD and DEAL WITH THE ROOTS. Go to the Lord, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the roots and to HEAL you from it. Unless we deal with the roots of problems, they will keep cropping back up and cause hurt, not only to you but those around you. Because hurt people hurt people. Become intentional about digging out these roots.
