Your not the only joint in town. Boycott that bad business, eat at the place next door, and if service is average to good, gladly pay 15%-25% to the server. However, I DO believe tipping has gotten out of control and the business owners should be providing a fair wage to their employees instead of the customers. If employees go above and beyond to make my experience better then they get a tip on top of their fair wage. That’s the way it should be!
