@eddiemason4316

I remember shortly after Resident Evil 1 came out a game called Deep Fathom came out, it was loosely based on RE but took place in a under water dome at the bottom of the ocean with sea monsters and creatures. It'd be cool if they remade that game, a rare gem indeed.

I don't understand why psychological horror games are called that way if there is absolutely nothing psychological. The only psychological thing that ever happened to me is when I scrolled random videos too much, then YouTube recommended me to watch some horrors and it was so silent so it made me think about atmosphere of silence, calmness, and something about isolation from this chaotic and loud world There is absolutely no horror game that scares me with same impact that real life has

Man, as much as I hate to say it, I think jump scare games are probably my favorite. Anything that frustrates me gets me out of the mood to allow myself to get scared so fast. The puzzles in psychological horrors and dying over and over in stealth and survival games frustrates me. I'm really bad at not bum rushing when I have a weapon. Years of FPS games have given me CoD brain. I started playing horror games to get scared and for nothing else. I don't want to test my stealth, shooting abilities, or brain power. I just want to clear my mind, get immersed in a creepy atmosphere, and get the $h!t scared out of me.

Survival Horror. I like the tense scary feel to them. Monsters hunting you as you deal with things like item management. Solving puzzles to progress in its world

Survival Horror - Tends to work pretty well in the indie scene, and if the scarcity and fitting "power" of resources is done right there can even be tension and cathartic relief, if not outright horror per say. Action Horror - Also an easier genre to not mess up, since in this one you can even go for full on dark comedy. Not to mention the faster paced action can be outright addicting to play in certain FPS action horror games. Stealth Horror - Excellent for tension building if done right. Kind of a niche genre since many of the other categories include stealth horror in their gameplay. Shalebridge Cradle tho. Psychological Horror - Oversaturated AF by dime-a-dozen walking sims in a suburban house, with cheap jumpscares and other such P.T. clones. Oh nooo, family tragedy haunts the main character. How deep. The genre that has never gotten over Silent Hill (which are also pretty overrated games IMO, not in the sense that they wouldn't be good overall, but I don't think most of them land the storytelling. Especially SH 2 & 3. Too abstract and filled with obscure references as "storytelling", too much of the up-it's-own-ass early SH community writing the story for the devs and then feeling super smort about it and giving the games too much praise for "complex" storytelling etc.) Back on topic: More often than not these games use the "psychological" as a kind of cop out term for lazy, pointlessly surreal and "abstract" gameplay that has very little actual gameplay in it. Can be really good if done right, but rarely is. Jumpscare Horror - I'll leave it for the kids and teens on TikTok. IMO complete cancer.

I just wish we could see some more horrors in a dystopian, medieval or any historical context showing up on Steam. These constant PT inspired clones has gotten a little stale.
