Looking and feeling better. To silence the haters (my inner monologue)

I ran this study w these exact same questions at my local university gym as a controlled study, results are not nearly what you’d expect. seems like a small community of fitness consumers put to look better, but most people put down health and longevity. surveying more than your audience would be way more effective, but screw it it’s youtube not my grade for my major🤷🏼

Started off 23 years ago to look better to get my ex back. Now it’s to look good and for mental well being. Plus the dopamine rush you get after a hard workout it tough to beat!

If I’m being super real 45% mental/emotional health, 25% performance/function, 15% looks, 15% longevity.

I started lifting to lose weight and improve my appearance, but now I can’t help but feel thrilled each time I add another plate to my max lifts.

Started it to look better, haven't achieved a good look yet but now my goal has been shifting into a better health and well-being

I do it for the discipline it builds… it’s amazing how certain things change when you control your body rather than let your body control you…

I really have to pick one 🤯. I suppose emotional well being effects al the other options. If you feel good you look good, perform well and are overall more healthy. But I have to it's cruel to make me pick

All of them, but the main one is mental, that’s why during tougher times I end up training more, and during easy times I train less. The reason I even started training was because I was becoming more and more depressed, and I worried that with the current trajectory (back then) I’d eventually even start thinking about death, which I wasn’t fine with. It helped, immensely.

Honestly the fact that the majority train to look better is concerning

Health nearly last place 😔 I train, predominantly for my family. I want to be a fit and healthy father and husband and I want to give myself the best shot at not losing that position, be it through injury or illness. Resistance training is a critical part of a healthy lifestyle imo, at least for most people and the daily life that they lead

I just think it's fun! Love the feeling afterwards as well though, and taking a warm shower and feeling so relaxed.

I started to look better. Then I did it to perform and function outside of lifting. Now for longevity and health.

All of the above But least priority is looking good, I don't want to cut my fats incase a world problem I'm still max strength and have extra fat for food.

Wow I’m shocked that performance and function is the lowest while appearance is the highest. We’re really doomed as a society lol.

What is the main reason you train?
