AFRICAN XHOSA ASMR

Ouma Katrina Esau is the last fluent speaker of N|uu, a 20 000-year-old click language of the Khomani San people. Since the passing of the second-to-last speaker in 2021, she has worked with linguists to document it, co-authored a children’s book, and teaches local schoolchildren in hopes of preserving the language.

I made a presentation for school some years ago about the world's rarest and dying languages. I clearly remember at the time there were only four (native and fluent) speakers alive. I haven't checked again since so this post came as a bit of a punch right in the heart...

This language needs to be preserved and taught to others. We know less about ancient African history than we do about ancient European and Asian history (with the exception of Egypt), so it's important to preserve this language and spread it on to future generations.
